Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

The straits times article is disappointing again. Prof teo talks down sinovac and used the 50% efficacy figure again from the Brazil but did not point out the relevant details in that study. Such as those involved were health workers and much more likely to be exposed to virus.

He also blamed sinovac for not releasing data themselves when it's clear sinovac has left that to the individual countries to do the studies.

Very biased report
This Teo guy either buys into the Western narrative or is biased against Chinese vaccines. I bet you almost no one in Singapore is talking about or interested in the Chinese vaccines - because of how Westernized they are. It's the whole cultural and mental framework.

A USAF C-17 carrying 750 thousand COVID vaccines (type unknown but presumably AZ) and senators Tammy Duckworth, Dan Sullivan and Chris Coons has arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport at 7:19 AM 6/6 Taipei time. This marks a landmark event because this is the first time a USAF aircraft has officially landed in Taiwan since the end of the Vietnam war.

According to Taiwanese media, this event also marks a great victory for both the U.S. and Taiwan and a "monumental defeat" for China since not only has the C-17 successfully evaded PLAAF surveillance by arriving during bad weather and successfully fooling PLAAF surveillance via C-12 decoys, "thus successfully exposing the inferior capabilities of the PLAAF", it also marks a "great diplomatic humiliation" for China since China has failed to stop "the US military returning to Taiwan" which "Chinese authorities have vowed to stop such an event from happening".

Video:

Politics defo at play here.

If China turns back the USAF aircraft, they slag China for turning back vaccines and a humanitarian effort.
If China lets it through, as above, they slag China for being incompetent and not being able to the USAF out.

This "humanitarian" effort could have used civil airlift, could have used JASDF assets but no, the choice to use a USAF C17 to deliver Japanese vaccines were deliberate.

I'll disagree here.

There is a sizeable segment of the population that is interested in the "China" vaccine, not because it is from China but because it presents what is deemed to be a safer solution. Inactivated virus tech which we know vs mRNA tech which we have our reservations about.

There is resentment that officially, we only have access to 2 vaccines which are both mRNA (Pfizer and Modena). The people do want more choices but being the sheeple that Singaporeans are, you won't hear much about it.

Well I heard the locals are not pleased with Pfizer Moderna AstraZeneca, but from what I understand, they aren't even considering Chinese vaccines as alternatives.

Is the local media/social media in Singapore having discussions about the efficacy of Chinese vaccines?

Also I believe Singaporeans are also disinterested in Russian vaccines. There seems to be a distrust in Russian products. I don't even think Singaporeans are interested in Russian culture (food, travel etc).

So you want Beijing to prevent US vaccines from reaching TW? Yeah, that will play out real well.

Last I checked, Taiwan has a population of 24 million. 750k vaccines represents only 3% of the population, and that's only for one dose. Let's see how many vaccines the US will keep sending to TW.
The danger is that they will be performing such military shipments more frequently, each time delivering a small number of vaccines. The Yankees are using the incompetence of Taiwan's vaccine effort, into a military intrusion of Chinese territory.

What other choices do they have? It seems they are dissatisfied with all available vaccines. They think they are more special?

Same sentiment here. I feel the Chinese vaccine are safer for my family but our government does not allow us the choice.
So much for freedom denied.

The English language local media pretty much parrots the US media. The Chinese language media is more pro China but I haven't followed them closely. Perhaps other posters can fill us in.

The forums are a mix and there is large cohort of anti china pro Western bananas who disparage sinovac at every opportunity

Taiwan is actively seeking this. Same with the Japanese vaccine donation. Tsai and DPP has politicised this pandemic from the very start. Prepare to expect more of the same

I thought cardiovascular symptoms could be very rare following BNT/Pfizer vaccination, but turns out its not. I can't believe they didn't notice this in the trials. There is a study among health care workers:
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
quote from the study:
"

Cardiovascular symptoms

Palpitations/racing heart (4.36%, 35/803), chest pain (1.12%, 9/803), and blood pressure changes and syncope (0.87%, 7/803) were reported by the recipients.

Neurological symptoms

Brain fogging or reduced mental clarity/attention/concentration (5.85%, 47/803)
"

These side effects are too common to be ignored, they should have been officially listed as side effects. People tend to think Pfizer has less side effects, but I guess it's just because they are not being reported.
