Can someone explain to me why India is "world's largest vaccine producer"? Is this just normal flu vaccines they produce, or are they largest COVID vaccine producer?

Also, if India is the "world's largest vaccine producer" (charitably including COVID vaccines), then why does China and US lead the world in total COVID vaccinations, while India is like...very far behind in total vaccinations (i'm not talking about per capita).
You are thinking too much about Indian propaganda mate

India is as much a "vaccine superpower" as "India Supapowe 2020 2021"

If China continues with 20+ million doses per day, that is 600 million per month.

And if it's an average of 2 doses for a vaccination, that would be 300 million fully vaccinated people per month.

Today, 24% of the Chinese population is *notionally* vaccinated.
By end-Jun, it would be 45%.
By end-Jul, it would be 66%. That passes/approaches the threshold for herd immunity.

By 20 August, 80% would be fully vaccinated, which is definitely enough for herd immunity.

So I reckon there will probably be a flood of Chinese vaccine exports starting July-August.
This doesn't take into account the other vaccine plants which are still under construction in China.

Oxford's OurWorldInData website excludes China from most charts because China has not published full vs. partial vaccination numbers, only the overall total vaccinated. If included, China would be #1 in the total charts.

Does anyone know if China has published full vs. partial vaccination numbers? China would be the top of the charts if it was included.

The New York Times has a chart below which includes China. You can sort by total.

Open discussion.

What does everyone think the world look like in 3months time?

Presumably China, Europe and America will be fully vaccinated.

China, as usual, will still be fine and reach herd immunity but will most likely keep their doors closed. I can't speak for Europe since I don't know much about their situation. As for the US, for this month and next month, people are going to run around amok and mask less, and this can lead to these outcomes:
1. Covid explodes, and as it spreads, it mutates to be more resistant towards the vaccines. People will still be cocky about the vaccines and continue to run around. By fall, new variants appear, and a ton of people get infected and die.
2. Covid infection rates continue to fall as the vaccines actually contain it. The US will be fine by fall.
3. Covid explodes but the vaccines actually contain it and give enough time for booster shots to be made. America will be in a shaky position by fall.

Regardless of these options, booster shots will be in the making and hopefully ready to be distributed if needed.

No Indian vaccines have been approved by WHO

Jai Hinds: *muffled angry noises*
It looks like as long as you get vaccinated with one of these WHO approved vaccines, your vaccine passport will be recognized worldwide.
So far no local Indian vaccines have been approved. India has been making the Astrazeneca, which is now avoided in many countries.

China should be able to ramp up its general vaccine capacity supplying the world, ahead of India.

Why would anybody (covax included) want a country without any expertise and industry capacity to build such plant instead of increasing the capacity of existing plant? Can't understand the way that the Vietnamese think.

"good luck" to Foxconn in convincing BioNTech to break its legal binding contract obligation. I wonder if Foxconn is willing to foot the would-be legal penalty incurred to BioNTech. Just as J&J said, at this point of pandemic I don't think any vaccine supplier is going to sell vaccines to private entity, if this precedent is set expect a huge black market.
What type of vaccines would Vietnam make? Moderna and Biontech are made in the US, Europe and by Fosun in China soon. Astrazeneca is now avoided by many countries. Are the Vietnamese going to make Sinovac and Sinopharm for China?

India is the largest vaccine producer because the West outsources their vaccine production to India. As seen with COVID-19 their production doesn't exist without the West funding it. It's a meaningless title.
How much of their vaccine raw materials are from China?
