On the topic of Chinese soft power in terms of video games/movies etc, how do you guys think they're progressing? For me, I think they're still at level one. The only time China got somewhat of a boost(if you can call it that) in cultural recognition is when Genshin Impact(A CN video game) released last year.

Even so, I feel that people can stomach it because it's heavily Japanese influenced - you wouldn't know a it's a CN game. That's why I think China still has a very long way to go to find their own way without 'relying' on others.
Black myth wukong, boundary, naraka blade point, ling's cage incarnation, dude China is getting better and better already. You simply don't know much about it but these things are really big.

One of the most amusing posts I've read online was a Taiwanese Genshin Impact player who spent loads of money on the mystery boxes and stated that the money probably went into PRC missiles, but the game was so fun that he'd continue spending money anyway.

Yeah, I guess what I mean is China is still early when it comes to these things. It is just the beginning.

Let‘s hope the US doesn’t also sanction the CN video game industry lol

Truth is that the monies spent getting Genshin's primos are spent on getting graphic cards and PS5 as bonus for their employees.

Good news for you then because almost everything when it comes to Chinese games in the west is almost always good. The mobile scene is dominated by Chinese games in the west and Asia. You then have the China hero project which includes many of the things I've listed. Here's the thing, the products while not much are balanced with top quality that brings fresh new air to the gaming scene while still keeping quality. None are best of this example than Naraka bladepoint. Literally the first instance it was shown on steam it was shat on but days of beta and it immediately topped Steam's top 10 with over 140K players and the majority of it loved it.

To me, the most impressive thing about Genshin Impact is the soundtrack. It is INCREDIBLE. The composer Yu-Peng Chen just came out of nowhere and suddenly created an OST that is on par with the very best Japanese composers who did legendary soundtracks like from the Final Fantasy series (he had created soundtracks for obscure Chinese movies before Genshin but this was really his big international debut).

It shows his versatility too as it varies across countless genres. This track for instance can only be described as "traditional Chinese heavy metal" and even has a choir that sings in ancient Chinese language
