A teenage girl in a COVID-ravaged Indian city has allegedly been gang-raped by two men who lured her to a deserted house with the promise of a vaccine.

The distressing ordeal — as India continues to be battered by its second COVID-19 wave — emerged from the Jamunapur area of Patna city of the northeast Indian state of Bihar on Tuesday.

The accused, Mantu and Rocky, were arrested a day after the alleged gang rape and are behind bars in the Malsalami police station.

“They have been booked under 376D and the investigation is on,” a police source said.

“We would also see whether they have been involved before in any case or not.”

The duo allegedly took the girl to a deserted house and took turns raping her for an hour before fleeing from the spot.

The alleged victim (name withheld) said: “I begged before them to set me free, but they behaved like beasts and started touching my private parts. Before I could show some resistance they slapped me repeatedly.

“They took me to a house and started grabbing me.

“Before I could try to run away from the spot they tied my legs and hands to cover my mouth with a hanky.”

Chinese aid is not meant to win over the Indians, at least that's very low on the priority list. I can think of many other good reasons for selling medical equipment to India:
  1. There's money to be made, who doesn't like money
  2. It's great international advertisement to the vast manufacturing capability of China - if any of you don't like this you are free to pick up the urgent order for several tens of thousands of oxygen concentrator at any time, if you can't... well then
  3. It shows the world that should China become the new world hegemon, the new world would be a better place because even when a supposed "enemy" state is in trouble China would help them out. As opposed to US which considers India to be a critical ally in their Indo-Pacific strategy and yet isn't doing anything
Number 3 seems to be working well since Indonesia has just asked China's help with the submarine, didn't even bother to ask the US.
I definitely think you are on the money (pun intended) here.

Medical equipment manufacturing had basically been dominated by US/EU/JP for decades simply because they dominated advanced manufacturing. As such, many healthcare providers will not look at new companies simply due to brand recognition (like the old adage, “no one ever gets fired for buying IBM”).

It is only through special circumstances that a new player can break into such a market, and India is an ideal market since a lower price would be attractive (same way Chinese handsets dominate their market)

I'm surprised to read the US media that they bother to mention China is sending aid to India. They managed to completely ignore China exporting its vaccine around the world so they can't make it look that China is heartless and not sending aid to India?

The US media is too busy exposing the botched handling of COVID in India (which makes Trump’s handling look lily white in comparison).

What use is Chinese aid when the Indians refuse to report on Chinese help and rather, persist in the Ladakh myth so as to toe the government's line on China?
Look at HuXujin's tweet calling out the indian press on omitting Chinese aid to India which is substantial compared to the anglos who would have otherwise ignored India if China hadn't shamed them into acting.

May as well spend the money on worthwhile recipients in south Asia, like Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

If India were to request 100 million vaccines doses from China, I think China should sell them to India.
If delivered over a month, that is only 25% of total production capacity in China. And production in China is still ramping up.
Plus China is still at zero cases per day.

That's at least 50 million people in India, who will personally know they have received a Chinese vaccine.
It's much harder to be anti-China in such a situation. And the politicians will really understand there is no alternative to China in many situations.
Plus we can't have an uncontrolled outbreak in India creating even more COVID variants.

But of course, would Modi swallow his pride and ever make such a request?
