Let me correct something a bit. The top search radar looks like it both Type 352 Square Tie and Type 354 Eye Shield set back to back. NATO code names for the radars are based on their appearance.

Interesting detail. Ship to the right has a flat panel SATCOM or datalink. Ship to the left which is 555, has this circular dome on the previous picture but not here. This picture is likely taken before 555 acquired this unit. These things can only have been added very recently.

Also interesting is that 555 puts the circular dome on the platform before its bridge, whereas the other ship of the same type (likely 553) puts it on top of the bridge.

In 2012, both 553 and 555 got retrofitted with SATCOM on top of their bridges, which is now replaced by the circular dome.

Round domes are like this:

There is a parabolic antenna. This is the older, traditional SATCOM antenna that is still in use today.

The circular kind has a flat array that is electronically or mechanically steered at the target. It can have separate receive and transmit subarrays (Rx, Tx).

I do not know what is on the other end of it --- satellite, UAV, aircraft --- or what's the exact purpose or functionality of these domes. It must be something important for it to proliferate across the fleet. I can expect these domes to be expensive compared to the traditional satcom dome. Its something that I can expect on expensive, front line, and new cutting edge warships. Over the last three years, these domes have been popping up all on many PLAN warships even among older veteran ones. But I am surprised and wondering why this is installed on an something this far old, soon to be retired, warship.

A music video featuring Type 053H3 567 Xiangyang. A lot of interesting details, like the new gun CIWS after refit (most likely derived from H/PJ-13) and the porcupine decoy launcher. IIRC the decoy launcher is also found on Myanmar navy frigates

The decoy system is an awesome catch.

CIWS isn't new. Its a Type 730B. Its the same Type 730 you see except that the radar and the EO is removed, leaving only the turret. The radar and the EO are instead, relocated to somewhere central between the two 730B turrets. Saves money and weight but the catch there is one radar, one EO having to serve two turrets, which limits your ability to engage multiple targets with the CIWS. In a way, its a similar system used with the AK-630 and H/PJ-13 as a CIWS having a separate installed radar, instead of a coupled unit like the Phalanx, Goalkeeper, Type 730/1130 and other gun CIWS people are more used to.

I'm sure the CIWS is not Type 730B. F-22P has Type 730B and it definitely doesn't look like the CIWS shown in the MV. I think the CIWS uses H/PJ-13's Gatling gun but with a new ammunition feed system like those used in Type 730/1130 (in the rotating housing instead of penetrating the deck like AK-630 or H/PJ-13).

P.s. Here's a link about H/PJ-13:

Found it while double-checking the new CIWS barrel shape.

P.p.s. While I'm at it, here're articles about

For those that need help opening the articles on

website, I've put a simple tutorial below.

Note:
1. To view different article categories (land/sea/air, etc), click on the logo on the home page. It will bring you to the category you clicked.

2. The reason I keep opening in new tab is because that is the only way for Google Translate to work. If you directly click the link from page 2 onwards, GT just doesn't work. You can, however, use GT again if you open the next link in new tab (like in pic 3).

3. You can actually directly select the article you want from the drop-down menu (the one in pic 4), but the article will be shown in reduced screen. I found that annoying, hence step 4-11 :p

This website is great. Thanks for the link and guide. Regarding navigation, I find it easiest to just mouse over a link and look at the English URL.
