The Iranians worship the west just like many Asian people. When they travel to the west, they would put on western styled clothing as soon as the plane left Iranian airspace.
Iranians have their bunch of west lovers. We should take the view of this individual with a spoonful of salt. Those Iranians who could converse in English, could be those Shah Loyalists.
There were many Shah loyalists who have escaped to the West. This is similar to some Cubans in the US who escaped from the Castro government. Or some Vietnamese in the US who escaped the North Vietnamese takeover of South Vietnam. Many of these guys are staunchly pro-US and would say all kinds of things to please their US masters.
We may not know how the average Iranians feel. But consider that you are just one of them. You have endured decades of Western sanctions. Life is hard. Your government tried to make a deal with the West first, not China. Then the West reneged on the deal so quickly after it was signed. Then the US killed your beloved war hero. Then the West sanctioned some more. When Covid-19 came, the West tried to stop medical aid from reaching to your country. You and your people suffered both economic and health disasters at the same time thanks to the West. Then China came in with Covid-19 aid relief. Then China came to sign a mega deal with your country. Not the best deal in the world, but a deal that gives you a glimmer of hope for a future out of a desperate situation. The Iranian government is grateful to China, and have produced some pro-China propaganda for the masses. And after all that. You, the average oppressed Iranian people should trust the West more than China? Is this logical?
