What is with the fearmongering in this thread? Go outside and get some sun. The US is heading to bankruptcy and its allies are not heeding its call to arms.

If you are afraid of getting hatecrimed, might I suggest a gun, or at least avoiding areas with lots of swarthy minorities?
Arming with gun? I don't think you know what's going on.

China can hit Tiawan tomorrow if it really wanted to, but US would ceaze the moment and get everyone sanction China...

So China solves its chip and naval problem by taking TW but ends up with no one willing to trade with it
If the escalation and provocation from Taiwan and US really warrant so, there are many ways to bring Taiwan to heel without invasion, in increasing severity:
- Nationalize all Taiwan factories in China. Since UN recognize one China this is strictly speaking an internal affairs.
- Cease all trade with Taiwan
- Cease all travel with Taiwan
- Blockade the ports of Taiwan
- Missile attack on strategic industrial areas, after adequate evacuation warning given to ensure no civilian casualties

All of these should have minimal diplomatic effect as long as Taiwan and USA are seen as the one provoking.

As soon as smee 28nm duv comes out, ASML should b banned in China if it not willing to sell NXT200i. It serves no purpose.

China has 4 years to completely be independent at certain node,28nm before potential next GOP president winning in 2024. Cotton already proposed the encore, stronger version than trump, complete decoupling from China.
No semiconductor chips and equipment to any Chinese entities. It won't just limited to above 10nm for SMIC as of now.
the next GOP president will adopt complete decoupling.

Clock is ticking. Stockpile as many second handed equipments as possible.
Not just cellphone chips, alot of other chips won't be available in future.

4 years is a very long time, anything could happen. The most important think for China is military and nuke power.

Chips for military and critical devices is already ~100 domestically produced. 7nm and below is good for high end smartphone and CPU. My desktop CPU is still Intel i7-6700K the first 14nm node .. and still the beast, faster than any laptops with big margin

So does than mean China needs to increase military spending so that it can deal with both the US and Europe at the same time just in case EU changes its plans?
Who knows, EU also wants to be more independent on semiconductor supply chain.

Perhaps they’re willing to supply to China once that is accomplished?

Yeah but what US is trying to do is deny China chip tech to force a war on TW. They will corner China.

It’s embarrassing enough that China claims TW as a province but TSMC can’t even sell to Huawei. Imagine this being expanded to all mainland companies. It's not only a tech independence issue, but a sovereignty issue. And US is violating Chinese sovereignty.

All I know is that TSMC has scorched earth policy and will not leave anything for the mainland. The engineers will also escape to the US to reestablish TSMC there.

On the other hand, Taiwan knows that TSMC is a significant bargaining chip and if the US gains lead over TSMC again, then Taiwan is forfeit. US has been pressuring TSMC to build that Arizona EUV fab to supply US F-35s and etc... US would actually prefer to have TSMC and its talent as a US company or part of Intel.

Decoupling is multifaceted. Not just technology. Not just China and US led western countries.

Eerily similar, US set up a strategic trap against Soviet. The forming of anti Soviet sentiment in Muslim world due to Afghan invasion.

Today, US employing the xinjiang genocide scheme attempt to break up China and Muslim world.

Also China see another strategic trap by US from India border conflict. That's why China sucked it up and shelve the conflict with India for now. It's a trap.

@Tyler what's the use of military build if you rely on others for your basic component to make it work. For the next 5 years the objective is to be self sufficient in all aspect of chip production processes and equipment from 28nm (basic for industrial use) up to 7nm (consumer uses), can China achieve those goal? for 28nm tech its a certainty for 7nm absolutely after that in 2025 let see what the next administration will do cause they don't have any ammunition left to bargain with, and with a peer opponent, war is not an option.

China must urgently build up its carrier strike groups and hopefully have setup at gwarda and at Myanmar to protect it's commercial sea lanes. If China has to bypass Malacca
Hopefully by 2025, China has 4 carrier strike groups at it's disposal.

Tesla and NIO use NVIDIA hardware in some data centers for image processing and autopilot. Still need high end chips. DJI still uses intel chips and so is satellite.

Chinese sats and beidou CANNOT use US chips numb numb. NIO uses NVIDIA but we have local GPUs for that and even then those don't need 5nm genius. DJI can use other chips than Intel, it's not even the most advanced. People use it due to branding, this will spur a lot of new Huaweis. A virus can't kill China and a trade war can't either. We always emerge stronger man, that's just how resilient we are, we are not Indians who talk.lol
