Watching the new korean movie space sweeper told me that china still has quite a long way to go to match the latest foreign movies. Chinese movies just have a weird sense of seriousness in them

Yeah. A ton of insecurities. It is like watching those TV talent shows and the contestants yell "I want to show the whole wide world that Chinese can do this too!" I think it is a hopeless situation until these ex-Red Guards all retire. When you give narrow minded people such power over creative arts, you get stock propaganda because that is all they know. They celebrate comformity and uniformity. "Space Sweepers" was excellent.

Too bad but she seemed to be begging for it. She said a lot of stuff last year and the alt-right incel YouTube echo-chamber said she was fired back then but now it seems her latest comment did her in.

Honestly, freedom of speech includes the right to be stupid in social media. But the idea of blacklisting an actor for their conservative beliefs is somewhat ominously troubling...

The government cannot deny freedom of speech. A business can if you work for them or you can choose not work for them so you can have the freedom to say what you want. Just like Twitter and Facebook can ban Donald Trump because it's their private platform that let Donald Trump use it and also not allow to use if they choose so. Gina Carano was asked to mind her words by Disney before and she chose to ignore it. Disney fired James Gunn just for saying things in the past because it was distasteful. Compared to him she got it good and she wasted it. Disney gave her what they didn't give James Gunn. James Gunn hasn't repeated what he said in the past nor has made any further offensive remarks. He has shown regret and he got his job back at Disney. Gina Carano displayed open defiance after the fact. That being said what people were offended by is the hypocrisy of society. They didn't like how she compared Republicans to how the Jews were treated during WWII. For the same reasons the use of word genocide for anything else has offended people in the same way yet when they say China has committed genocide, they seem to be okay with it even when they just talking cultural genocide and not exterminating anyone. By their logic because they want to force China to embrace Western culture, they want to commit genocide themselves. People are going to be offended that I use the term genocide to describe what the US wants to do to China.

Now what did you guys like about this movie? The CGI was okay. That's about it. The US Netflix version... the voices were dubbed with bad voice acting. I'd rather read subtitles because the voice acting didn't help. But then I don't buy that female lead being a bad ass like they tried to make her. It maybe at the level of a straight to video US movie. but I wouldn't say it was on the level a Hollywood tent pole movie.

Too add on since I just finished watching the movie and wrote the above before I went to bed... I thought is was typical Asian storytelling affair contrary to it being in league with Hollywood. A good movie has the audience trying to anticipate where it's heading. This movie I was being dragged through it. There were so many questions to why "this" was happening and most was never answered. They were gimmicks. Why was that Caucasian guy lusting over the female lead? That character was completely unnecessary as with many others which also made the movie feel long because they were digressions. What made this woman attractive? Just because she was cute and thin? And then at the end when she's holding off all those space fighters with an assault rifle and four clips attacking their ship... I would've bought that absurdity if it was a well choreographed over-the-top action sequence but it was just her strapped outside the ship like she were hanging off a Blackhawk helicopter with an MG firing at space fighters flying by that just made it boring. The one thing you do to hide bad CGI is to make it blurry. There was a lot of blur around the object in focus. I would categorize it as a ride movie but then all that character centric stuff slowed it down. Like I said before, the voice acting of the dubbing was horrible. It was static but then the main characters were static through most of the movie.

She was cute and thin. I am very shallow and that was enough for me. Have you seen her in HANDMAIDEN?!

The comparison of SPACE SWEEPERS was with China's WANDERING EARTH. No comparison.

Kim Tae-Ri can be my Captain any time.
