2 years ago, I didn't believe the US was stupid enough to go down this route.
It's entirely feasible for the Chinese economy to continue growing even larger, so that it is twice the size of the USA by 2035.
But here we are.
They should have concentrated on overhauling their non-functioning education system instead of depending on brain drain system. But then "free" generation prefers Instagram over university.

BOE's OLED screen had passed Apple validation. First shipment to Apple completed by Dec. 25.

This should boost China's share in the iPhones:

Total cost is like $400:

Before BOE screens China is only 4.6%

The screen is like $70 which should push mainland's share to over 15-20%.

The public opinion in China is very anti-GMO food.
Which is one of the reasons why China is behind in agriculture and food prices are high.

As long as the leadership approves and the people see prices go down, thing will go smoothly I think. Most people wouldn't even know they're eating GMO.

Agriculture tech should be a top priority in transitioning to a consumption economy.

The Chinese leadership can’t go against strong public opinions.

part of the reason for the low value added is due to low land to workers ratio

It'll be hard to convince the ignorant.

90%+ of GMO are actually just done by selective pressure breeding to get the traits you want. It's simply a sped up version of how we've been raising crops/animals in mankind's history. Very few involve genes bering artificially inserted.

Hehe imagine where China would be without Deng to put China back on track. The sheer amount of ignorance would've fucked us worse than India. Still a long way to go.

I think actually the public opinion was shaped by the leadership. The CCP did not want foreign vendors selling GMO crops in China because you cannot be sure that their genetic data is fully divulged. Indian cotton farmers found out the hard way that after planting Monsanto GMO cotton, they could no longer grow regular plants, possibly because the GMO plants included some toxin and a toxin cassette so that only they were immune to what they were emitting. On a more devious note, if an insidious foreign power were to knock in some DNA into a GMO crop sold to China that produces a low level carcinogen or antagonist to mammalian fertility, it could act as a slow poison to the Chinese population. So the CCP banned GMO and told people that GMO was not the be trusted.

I agree with localizer that China needs to fast-track research and development of high-tech farming and its own GMO crops and livestock that Chinese people can trust so that food prices in China can go down, which would greatly improve quality of life. The exorbitant prices that people in China pay for common meats like beef and pork are absolutely intolerable compared to how easily affordable they are to the average American. When the average blue collar Chinese worker can use the wages that he earned in an hour to buy his family a kilogram of whole cut fresh beef (not ground up fat bits or crap like that), then living in the West will lose its allure to the Chinese people.
