Some screen captures of a recent exercise. The first two images are particularly nice, as they show off flight deck control operations.

China built dry dock large enough to fit carrier in Hainan From HI Sutton. Make sense if CV 17 is based in Hainan any maintenance can be done locally It is great news

New satellite images show steady progress building a new dry dock there. It will large enough for China’s new Type-003 super carrier.

Construction of the dock started in 2016 and now appears close to completion. As with any new structure only observed in satellite imagery, there is a degree of uncertainty in assessing its purpose. However we are as confident as we can be at this stage that this is indeed a massive dry dock.

Having a dry dock on Hainan will greatly strengthen the naval presence there. It indicates that aircraft carriers will be permanently based on the island. Nearby, a pier which has already been used by carriers, currently has a brand new

Hainan is strategically located; these drydocking facilities will increase capabilities of in situ maintenance and repairs of China's precious naval assets.

Yes, finally headed to Hainan. This might be the ship's new perma-home and with the new drydock, no need to swim back to Dalian for small things. I expect it to exercise or work with the Type 075 there.

We are going to miss all the close up sharp pictures of the ship in Dalian.
