So what happens after the third 075 is launched? Will there be more of them or will they wait until the designs are finished for the type 075A?

With all the news of 076 and no spottings of new 075 hulls beginning construction it seems unlikely there will be any more 075s of any type.

One to be assigned to the North Sea Fleet, another for the South Sea Fleet, last one serving as backup/rotation when the other goes into dry dock/maintenance - that's my take on why they are only planning on building three 075s .

Total eight 075's will be built according credible sources.

According to Chinese wikipedia there will be a second batch.

Edit: I see it's already mentioned by weig2000.

Eh, the Dems have become hawks since Trump was elected, so tensions are likely to remain high.

They always have been hawks. The period of engagement with China running from 1978 - 2011 had not only the goal of exploitation of cheap labour but they also engaged in the hope of a soft regime change of CCP. The soft regime change so far has not succeeded so they have turned their cards from engagement to confrontation. This period of 'strategic opportunity' of 1978 - 2011 allowed China to escape the rampant poverty and grow to a middle income country. We now at least have some fat on our bodies.
