I must admit I'm still not convinced with the 99th AB ... here is the original link + report which sound IMO much more like the 7th Air Brigade at Wuhu.

Your link is indeed talking about 7th Brigade. I'm talking about a different one from here

The pictures show Korla but 99th is based in Hotan most of the time.

All J7 brigades use 32 airframes? Or some j7 brigades use 32 airframes? Or did you mean to say j16 brigades use 32 airframes?

Wow ... I must admit I've seen these images but without any reference to a certain base. So thanks my friend!

Or how likely is a deployment and not a conversion of the 99th as an alternative explanation?

It's definitely a conversion. From the article:

"We have come to understand this unit is in the midst of converting to a new type with the completion deadline set at year's end. The unit stoutly upholds the principle of maintaining combat effectiveness, adhering to training guidelines, and abiding by safety standards, striving for a conversion process that is both efficient and safe."

The TO&E trackers I follow including yankeesama all confirmed it's 99th Brigade, I see no reason to doubt them.

An image was posted of a new J-16 with what appears to be a modified version of the WS-10B. The nozzles feathers are slightly longer and similar in shape - albeit not in colour - to those seen on the latest J-11BG. (Image via @罪恶大天使 from Weibo)

A few more images of the J-11BG from the same batch that Deino just shared. The second one is a higher resolution version of a previously shared image. The nozzles don't appear to be covered in soot, as you can see they are quite shiny in the first image. I think the coating or material are simply darker.

Is the last image not a J-16?
