India is a land of plenty, warm weather, and no real credible military threats. Thus it is slow to develop because it doesn't need to.

China is surrounded by US et al., lack resources, and must succeed or else it's the end of the nation.

It's more on the bureaucracy side. Slow Decision making creating slow development. This resulted in diverting fund from the military expenditure towards other programmes. That means India spends less on its military than the official budget. And Foreign procuments make it worse.

Well well, Modi riding on an (Indian Leopard II wannabe) Arjun MkI MBT during Diwali at Rajasthan. Is that a cavalry hat he is wearing? But more shockingly, is the Indian media claiming that more Arjun tanks would be procured?

The Arjun Mark 1-A weighs 68 tonnes and features a 120 mm main gun. The

for 118 of them, and the file for Acceptance of Necessity is being processed, sources in the defence and security establishment said.

Are they serious? I thought the Indian Army already rejected more Arjuns in favour of more T-90MS? The tank, especially Mk I is already outdated as of 2002. Its protection, and firepower is already inferior to the T-90MS. Not to mention its ponderous 68 ton weight. Is the Indian Army going to commit more budgetary and logistical suicide just for the sake of 'Atmanirbar Bharat'? Lol...

maybe I'm wrong, but I got the impression that India favors the twin-seat fighter far more than other countries, US., China, Russia, Europe...

Any theory why?
Due to MIG 21's anyway twin jet fighters can be reliable if one engine fails. But are costly to maintain.

Na they are talking about Mk1A but the weight is same and can be fielded only in Rajasthan not on other borders.

Indeed Rajasthan is a good place for tank battles. The main question should be why the Indian Army wants to procure more Arjuns? The Arjuns are now considered inferior to the incoming newer T-90MS that India is procuring from Russia. So buying more Arjun seems like a moot point. Plus it uses different ammunition types, and spare parts. So this also makes little sense from a logistical stand point.
