But as we have seen in these past few month, this is not always the case in India... There really is no guarantee that Indian soldiers on the ground will behave in a predictive manner....

I wouldn't trust any word coming out of India, because even if Indian diplomats and politicians are speaking about their true intentions, it is worthless if they cannot control their military. Measures must be taken based on the actions from the Indian side. So far, the Indian action still signals tension and hostility, I think unless Indian starts pulling soldiers back first, this thing is not going to de-escalate any time soon.

PLA troops should be on high alert, whether or not there is intentional surprise attacks. They should make it a point to capture Indian troops and maybe force confessions out of them and record them, and hold those as leverage to force the Indian gov to put a tighter hold on their troops or they release those confessions to shame India. I think it's pretty clear that this is an image game, even now with India negotiating it's just to pretend they are the ones seeking peace with an aggressive China.
We should also be wary of the US having a hand in this to some degree trying to create further tensions between China and India, which would force China to have to divert attention to a hostile neighbor that they've coexisted with for thousands of years. I think China isn't falling for it but India and the nationalistic populace are, thinking they'll take China's place as the superpower of the region.
