Chinese Engine Development

Someone on Weibo asked Pupu if the WS-15 has a thrust of 18 tonnes, as stated by Song Xinzhi. He says he would believe the 18 tonne figure if it was the long term goal of the WS-15 (mentioning the 117S and the WS-10C as evolutions of the AL-31F and WS-10 engines respectively to compare with). Pupu also mentions that the WS-15 thrust should be a little over 16 tonnes at the current stage. It would be interesting to see if this pans out to be true. Nonetheless, at least we finally have a little more information on the WS-15.

Pupu also says 裤衩还是稍微红了那么一点点 (the pants are still a little red), in response to another poster saying he would feel ok if the thrust is 16.5 tonnes. Does this mean Pupu is saying the WS-15 thrust is slightly under 16.5 tonnes?

Keep in mind when Pupu first talked about the J-20’s WS-10s he suggested they were 13.2 tonne engines. More recently he’s suggested they’re 14.5 tonne engines. This tells me Pupu’s own information isn’t always up to date, which is something he himself has attested to before...

Saw this over at PDF, guy says WS-19 is 10:1 10ton thrust?

The guy is Song Xinshi and he was apparently a fighter pilot (and therefore is appraised to be reliable by some in the cjbd forum (?) ).

" WS-19 thrust ratio exceeds 10, and its thrust exceeds 10 tons, instead of the 9,500 kilograms previously transmitted online."

"The channel ratio of turbofan 19 transmitted on the Internet may be wrong and not so large"

All this from a Chinese tube video btw.

So the implication is that it's around 16.1 tons, or around 158 kN (note the F119 is around 160 kN).

This is dated 2016. CJ-1000 LPT shaft is Norwegian in origin?

Pardons if this was common knowledge.
Also, what's the difference between CJ-1000A and CJ-1000X?

Why are we buying a lpt shaft from Norway? has COMAC been living under a rock?
Its equipment for engine test and development. Its not for use in the engine itself. Understand that china is behing in aircraft engine tech and must get whatever it can get from nations with more advanced tech, more so for an engine for civilian use.

Google Translate :
China’s variable-cycle engine has carried out flight tests: After more than ten years, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Shenyang Institute of Aviation Industry, Northwestern Polytechnical University jointly completed the "Research and Application of Key Technologies for Multidisciplinary Simulation of Advanced Combat Aircraft Propulsion Systems".

The project was patented 16 Among them, 14 invention patents, 2 software copyrights, 2 monographs, 13 SCI papers, 12 EI papers, 1 third prize of the 2017 China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Progress Award, and 2 national military standards , The relevant results have been applied in multiple domestic aero engine models, the first carrier-based fighter, the first ground-attack unmanned combat platform, the first domestic modal conversion flight test and other models, and the flight verification has been completed, which can support The research team was appointed as the stability support team for the development of a certain key aero engine model of the country for the demonstration and development of the next generation of multi-purpose advanced fighter jets and high-altitude long-endurance unmanned reconnaissance aircraft. The research results have important military and social benefits.

Flight tests!?!?!? That's a surprise since we haven't heard much about it except the existence of such projects for nearly a decade.

Sometimes I feel like China is just as closed of as North Korea regarding military developments even though the country has opened up a lot. Things like these reaffirm that feeling.

It'd be nice to know the numbers associated with the VC Engine.
