Chinese diplomacy tend to be reactive and passive, timid maybe because the mandarin are deferential to the West and don't want to rock the boat. And deep reserve of admiration by older generation of diplomat who studied in the west
But I see ray of hope in the younger diplomat . When the US poke china in the eyes by interfering in Hongkong, Taiwan and SCS all China did is expressing dissatisfaction and threat of retaliation But that is not good enough need concrete measure like the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Now is a goo time to befriend Iran and sell weapon to her as a retaliation to sell weapon to Taiwan

Defying U.S., China and Iran Near Trade and Military Partnership
The investment and security pact would vastly extend China’s influence in the Middle East, throwing Iran an economic lifeline and creating new flash points with the United States.

Iran and China have quietly drafted a sweeping economic and security partnership that would clear the way for billions of dollars of Chinese investments in energy and other sectors, undercutting the Trump administration’s efforts to isolate the Iranian government because of its nuclear and military ambitions.

The partnership, detailed in an 18-page proposed agreement obtained by The New York Times, would vastly expand Chinese presence in banking, telecommunications, ports, railways and dozens of other projects. In exchange, China would receive a regular — and, according to an Iranian official and an oil trader, heavily discounted — supply of Iranian oil over the next 25 years.

The document also describes deepening military cooperation, potentially giving China a foothold in a region that has been a strategic preoccupation of the United States for decades. It calls for joint training and exercises, joint research and weapons development and intelligence sharing — all to fight “the lopsided battle with terrorism, drug and human trafficking and cross-border crimes.”

in 2016 — was approved by President Hassan Rouhani’s cabinet in June, Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, said last week.
Iranian officials have publicly stated that there is a pending agreement with China, and one Iranian official, as well as several people who have discussed it with the Iranian government, confirmed that it is the document obtained by The Times, which is labeled “final version” and dated June, 2020.

The United States anti-China alliance scheme is moving forward. Since China doesn't care about its international relations, soon the whole developed world will be united against it.

Lol China is sooooo scared

It's been this way since the 1990s if not earlier. This sort of antagonism is ironically the very thing that's holding greater China together and even wooing increasingly more HK and Taiwan people over to sympathising with the mainland. Despite HK protests, the silent majority have welcomed the security law and become more aware of anti-China west. At least the majority of my HK friends have become this way... they used to be quite arrogant and typical anti-mainland but parts of their city being burned down by protestors have opened their eyes.

Indeed, the more ideologically extreme people are the more destructive they act, and thus the truth sayers become much clearer by contrast.

Chinese diplomacy tend to be reactive because they are weak in PR. Too much incompetence
They are passive toward US primary because US is more powerfull. Nothing to do about "deep reserve of admiration"

But that is not good enough need concrete measure like the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Now is a goo time to befriend Iran and sell weapon to her as a retaliation to sell weapon to Taiwan

Not the first time China and Iran are talking about strategic partnership. Talking about it since 2016 but very little has been realised
China just trying to use Iran as a bargaining chip to decrease the pressure from US and Iran need China. Don't expect concrete mesure to play "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"

Rand corporation did countless simulation on Pacific war between US and China and every time the US get their ass whoop. So I don't think China is weaker in west pacific . China own the ground in west pacific . US has to fight the tyranny of distance once those bases in Japan and Korea gone US has to bring everything from Hawaii or west coast A long supply line that has to pass the chinese missile gauntlet

American has only handful of bases in Asia and all of them are not reinforced It is not the question of weak China But about their priority China does not necessarily initiate hostilities for the sake of displacing america place in pacific China has no issue with that

Chinese priority is Taiwan and SCS cross that red like than we see war in west pacific. Sofar the red line has not been cross. you don't go to war lightly unless the China's core of interest is transgressed. China has prove it again and again in Korean and India

But if china feel that US keep annoying her with blatant interference in Hongkong and Taiwan then all bet are off Iran China strategic partnership is real and is forming they already settle the term It is up to Iranian to seal and deliver it.

China diplomatic corp are dominated by people in 60's who get their education in the west But changing of the guard is coming as these men are retiring by the drove The young diplomat has no recollection of poor and weak China they grow up in prosperity and has no inferiority complex. They can hold their own against the west

Whenever a China-Iran strategic partnership was mooted previously, it never happened.
The US was really opposed to it, but China didn't care that much.

So China and the US came to a backroom agreement.

But will this happen this time around?

I wonder why China Iran desn't come to an agreement to sell oil in Yuan?
Lots of developing countries would jump onto that. It would help countries to get rid of the dollar too.

China just want to use again Iran to appease Trump but that will not work. China thought the trade deal will make trump to de-escalate, but Trump no longer care about the deal because he knows the deal has failed. The US negotiator Robert Lighthizer says he don’t know what the end goal is in the trade war with China and right now they want to stop an aggressive force. Now US sanctions Chinese Officials, Including Politburo Member. Trump administration plans to finalize regulations this week that will bar the U.S. government from buying goods or services from any company that uses products from five Chinese companies including Huawei, Hikvision and Dahua. Trump gov is escalating. US also plans South China Sea announcement next week. US proved ready to take pain to stop China, China not.
