Because 61000 deaths out of 45 million cases is 0.1% CFR.
CNBC are running the story as well.
The Germans must be furious.
Stealing a German vaccine and only keeping it for Americans instead of sharing with the world?

I'm reading the theories, but there is no evidence that suggests COVID-19 started in the US.
So far, the genetic evidence is pretty conclusive that Wuhan wasn't the origin.
And it does suggest the less infectious ancestor to COVID-19 passed through Guangdong first. Whether it started in Guangdong is another question and we'll probably never know for certain.
But in all likelihood, it probably did start in Guangdong.

That's despicable.
Not surprising.
Lot of guy carry pneumonia on foot, undiagnosed and undiscovered, due to bacteria, fungi and who know due to what.
If the person doesn't do heavy job, or exercise regularly it is hard to recognise, maybe there only light pain, but nothing more.
If they catch this virus then it will make the situation more complicated.
Many things, like fungi, insects, nuisance birds , mouses or other irritants in the house can cause pneumonia.
They can cause light pneumonia on they own, but with viral over infection the situation can be critical .
It is important to get rid of any fungi from the house, nuisance birds from the attic, mouses and dust generally .
Good to have air purification machine with HEPA filter, and humidity control.
For anyone who exercise at home these kits could be more important, the lung will work magnitude harder during exercise, and filter out anything from the air .
It's simply the logic of America First, instead of a shared humanity.
It's not like this kind of thinking doesn't exist everywhere.
But it is more common in individualistic societies than in collectivist societies like China, Japan or in Scandinavia
Yes, but regardless CFR, 61,000 is still a massive number of death assuming same data for 2019. How many of these can really be attributable to COVID-19 if properly diagnose? Saying that 50 to 1000 more death can easily be misdiagnosed.
Well, it's more complex than just contribution. It's also receiving funds from the EU, the last time I look (and this is from memory and generalisation) most, if not all southern and eastern european countries are what's known as net beneficiaries. That is, they get more funds than they put in. It is the northern europeans inc. Germany and UK that made up the budget shortfall.
I remember in my youth when I was travelling in eastern and southern europe, on nearly every new Freeways, there are always signs stating "project funded by EU"! So the amount of monies received is huge!
Now, after saying that, it shouldn't mean in today's EU, Italy shouldn't be given help in this, their hours of need. But alas, no, EU see fit not to offer help to poor old Italy!
