Hong-Kong Protests

This makes me laugh.

For those here don't read Chinese, the gist of it is that this 19 year old student was called rioting last month.

It came to court now, and just like the cases I posted earlier, the thugs are trying everything in the book to get out of jail time. (remember attention disorder, etc.) She is asking the judge to be favorable to her situation as she is going on holiday in the new year! You can't make it up.

The youth is either extremely naive, or like all others thugs, they never thought they would've been caught the first place, which is why they behave like animals, thinking they never going to get caught!

This brings to life the phrase:

If you can't do the time, then don't do the crime!

This showed his real colour, and what a traitor he is! He is a Chinese national (abeit of Vietnamese descend) and a holder of Hong Kong ID card, he is "entitle" (I know he was DQ in the recent election) to stand at election in Hong Kong.

Yet, he is openly enlisting foreign government to intervene in China's Hong Kong affairs. Furthermore, he addressed W Churchill as "Our Prime Minister"! Lol,

The stupidity and naivety of youth. Let me remind him, W Churchill has never been Hong Kong's Prime Minister. He was the Prime Minister of the UK under the subject of the King/Queen. He was elected by the people of the UK, Hong Konger never had a chioce, so where's Wong's democracy and freedom?

Hong Kong was a colony under the subject of the Queen/King, which is why the governor was send to govern His majesty's subjects on behalf of the King/Queen. (I know some of you will think but its the Prime Minister that send the governor, yes that's true, but he is doing it on behalf of the King/Queen)!

HK Courts are such a joke that even teenagers are willing to pull these pranks, time and again gets away with it and further undermines this institution.

IF Labour "won". But the pan-Dems camp has already won. So your scenario is irrelevant to the discussion. Who said anything about conclusion, it is perception that matters and gives the rioters the legitimacy to continue the riots.

It is a color revolution but you still think the oppositions just want some candies. And they still have not condemned violence. Not the moderates, not the pan-Dems camp, none of them have condemned violence. They still claim that in order for the violence to stop, the government needs to accept the 5 demands. If this is so called rejecting violence, then you are daydreaming.

There is a lot of talk of the lack of moderates to calm tensions between radicals and others. Could it be possible that many of these moderates have left the city? I believe in the last few years (even before the rioting), the number that have left HK to come to Canada has numbered in the 10's of Thousands. There must have been even more decamping for US, and UK. The main warnings to the rioters by the establishment are always regarding practical concerns like jobs, property value, and education. Could this number be as much as a million?

From a Canadian perspective, most "re-immigrants" return for all of those reasons. Unemployment is not an issue, property value is growing and better value (more sq. ft./$ for a family), lots of opportunity for post-secondary education, better English skills taught before that. On top of that, the outdoor environment is nicer. Many articles also cite politics, but I think this is a bit of a bogeyman just like it was in '97.

I do believe some moderates have left Hong Kong but that isn't the decisive factor. It is more to do with major pan-Dems parties have been hijacked by radicals to take a more radical approach. Just take a look at Democratic Party of HK, it used to be a more moderate party. But the founding of Civic Party and other more radical parties have forced it to take a more radical tone. The media and Jimmy Lai have made sure that any moderates who speak of reconciliation to be ostracized.

For the last two decades, there are a few purges of members by the Democratic Party. Most of these people have left politics but some of them joined the pro-establishment. The problem is these moderates can't form a new moderate party due to the fact that the media would portray them as traitors and pro-establishment. So there is no middle road anymore. For the moderate voters, many of them have been radicalized. Some of them chose to vote for the pro-establishment(that explained why the pro-establishment camp has improved their share of votes in legislative elections even though most youngsters support pan-Dems camp). But the thing is it is still not enough to turn the tide. I do think(hope) if the violence persisted, those moderate voters or those who didn't register to vote or didn't vote for the district elections would turn on the rioters.

Many people wonder what is the end game. The end game for the rioters is to force the central government to send in PAPs or the military to intervene. The so called violent protests or the general strike are to provoke the police so that the HKPF would make mistakes and the HK government would pressure to create a special committee to investigate and prosecution the police. Many western governments were asked by the rioters to pass laws either to threaten the HK government/HKPF or to create a special committee to investigate the police. That's why I am strongly against the idea of a special committee. The central government still has the choice not to use the military to intervene is due to the HKPF can still contain the violence.

Pan-democrats launch bid in legislature to remove Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam from office

sounded to me like it's more likely Trump would be removed from office (he won't be) than Mrs. Lam; follow the link

I like the part where the guy that got beat up because a Western journalist prevented him from finding safety in the JP Morgan building where he worked, got complaints from co-workers because he said "we are all Chinese." Any workers that hate Chinese being pressured working in a company that makes money from China... how about not working at a company where you get paid by doing business with China. Yes Hong Kong should be destroyed by their own stupidity. When Hong Kongers create apps to identify which businesses to patronize and to avoid based on Hong Kong politics, the city should fail.

1. So many mainland immigrants affect jobs opportunities for youngsters and the problem is due to the central government.
2. China is a country of shady infrastructure and tainted foods.
3. Western holiday is popular and the traditional holiday is fading.
4. Suggesting that participating in riots is for the future generation and convince your parents it is a right thing to do.
