The large dark cylinders are pressurised tanks for liquefied natural gas. They are to be installed on LPG carriers.

Jiangnan got a contract to build an LNG carrier late last year. It wont be that big as Hudong Zhonghua has been boasting lately about building the world's largest LNG carrier starting 2020.

The mega sized container ship people are seeing in that pic should be a member of COSCO Shipping's new Universe class. This ship is a technological marvel in its own right.

The collision happened at night on the ocean with little lighting other than what the ships themselves provided. So in the eyes of startled sailors on the ship even a smaller sized vessel might seem large, I wonder if the Taiwan Coast Guard managed to take more accurate readings of the ship in question, radar signature or night sight photos would be helpful.

The Yutai No.1 is a 67 meter small ship (

). To them, every ship seems huge; an 054 is twice the length. As a matter of fact, China's coast guard has 12,000 ton cutters the size of the 055. They don't know what they saw at all.

It reminds me of a National Geographic film where many people claimed to see an extinct Teratorn because they saw birds perched high on cliffs, trees, utility poles with 15+ feet wingspan. Multiple accounts agreed to a huge size unreachable by known extant birds so after many failed scientific expeditions to find any clue of them at all, scientists turned to the eye-witnesses and asked them to identify the sizes of cardboard cutouts placed some 100 or more yards away. Several people thought some 6-8 foot silhouettes of eagles were 12-20 feet which ended the mystery of what they saw.

A Taiwanese cargo ship 「友泰一號」 has collided with a PLAN vessel last night(July 31st)
Suspected to be either a guided missile frigate or a Type 071 龙虎山(980)

The PLAN vessel has attempted to bring the Taiwanese ship to Xiamen but the Taiwanese ship refused. Citing they will resolve this through legal means.
Later Taiwanese patrol boats contacted the damaged PLAN ship and asked to search the ship, the request was also refused. Citing the ship is damaged and need to dock soon.

(Source is from Taiwanese media, might be unreliable, but it's the only source I can find right now)

Hilarious.:D:confused::rolleyes:o_O. Did the patrol boat's captain forget that Mainland and Taiwan are still at war? Not rhetoric "war" but literally and legally at war? Just because PLA stopped shooting since 1979-01-01 does not mean they will not shoot at any moment without any warning.

Background: Unlike Korea, there is no cease fire across the straight, only PRC's unilateral declaration of stop shooting on 1979-01-01. Recent administrations from Taiwan have asked for a peace agreement, PRC never responded.
