Turkey Can't Have Both F-35s and Russian Missile System, NATO Commander Says

The recent India-Pakistan situation and the debate over whether F-16s were used and potentially in contravention of end-user agreement, would suggest to me that some kind of end-user terms would restrict or maybe limit such an event of F-35 vs F-35. The US supposedly holds the source codes and in my opinion may have the leverage to prevent such incidents.

Another F-35 customer. Singapore to buy four F-35 fighters, with option for eight more

, with an option for eight more, as part of efforts to build the next-generation Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said yesterday.

He added that Singapore deems it an "opportune time" now to put in a request for the F-35 - dubbed the world's most advanced fighter jet - as its price has been falling due to healthy orders from the United States and 10 other countries.

The unit price of the F-35 ranges from US$90 million (S$122 million) to US$115 million, which is comparable to what Singapore paid for its F-15SGs, said Dr Ng. He added that the total cost of ownership of an F-35 fleet, including maintenance across its lifespan, will also be similar to that for the F-15SGs.

No word though on whether it will be A or B model. I suspect they will go for the B model initially as theit land mass syncs well with the unique capability of the B. Possibly they will add the A further down the line. With their plans to eventually replace 60 F-16s, there is sufficient demand to do both.

As the Olde Preacher's used to say "Amen, and Amen!" NO WAY would anyone with a "pea brain" allow the Turks to operate the F-35 alongside the S-400... that would be giving away the store, and we damn well better not do that, I don't care who it "pisses off", won't be long and Erdogan will be begging the Russians to take those damned S-400's back, really, he's made a very bad move here, a smart man would stop and say?? "What the hell was I thinking", kinda like cheating on your wife, looks like fun, till you get caught! then the shit hits the fan!

With Obama or Hillary running the show, this would have been a huge screw up, I'd like to use the real terms, but I just can't, but you get my drift.....

and our NATO allies, in fact every F-35 partner ought to be burning down the phone lines to the Trumpster, NO WAY IN HELL!

Here is an area where I've got to question Mattis?? this is a NO brainer! "not only NO, but HELL NO!"

If the Turks were allowed to purchase the F-35, that damnable S-400 would "paint it" every time it flew over, from every angle", NO, NO, NO!

and take away those production plants, get em the hell out of there, this is a fundamental breach of trust on Erdogon's part, shut it down!

It's like being engaged to a woman who cheats on you, sorry Baby! its over!

Turkey has a lot of leverage because of its military depth and its strategic location relative to the Middle East hotspots. Access will become a major logistic issue and so there are other considerations. That said, the F-35s were developed primarily to deal with the S-400s of the world I agree it would be a strategic misstep to allow Turkey to have both. The problem could be Turkey renege on a deal subsequently after getting its hands on the F-35s..Turkey in the best of times has previously demonstrated to be a problematic partner.

Yet it seems to be no issue to allow Israeli F-35s to fly under the range of the S-400 the Russians have in Latakia.
Both situations are entirely different. If Turkey gets both, its argument of assurance is there will be firewalls between the two. That only works on paper and meant as a cover for anyone looking for an excuse to support such an acquisition program. It will almost be impossible to prevent S-400 Russian technicians from accessing F-35s capabilities via multiple means of covert programs on the ground. In contrast, Israeli F-35s operating within S-400 range presents an excellent opportunity for the F-35 to vacuum up S-400 signals if they are foolish enough to light up.

yes, it was nick named MAD because it is the ultimate insanity,,,, the US has always been a peacemaker, and always will be... look at Canada and Mexico our closest neighbor's, we have lots and lot of legal immigration, and from the South, hoards of people wishing to enter the US by any means possible. (I don't blame them)

Point is our neighbors are NOT afraid of the US, they are our closest allies, the same cannot be said for Russia?? nor can it be said for China?? their neighbors are afraid, that's why their neighbors continue to appeal to the US for protection!

that's why our partners in the F-35 remain committed and part of our alliance, they TRUST us, now back to the F-35, its a wonderful little airplane that continues to grow in capability, it will draw our allies closer, and keep them safer, they will do more, with fewer aircraft... just ask the Israeli's, they're happy with their little bird.....
The peaceful rise argument is a complete hogwash in my view. Its belligerent behaviour will continue on the same trajectory as its military capability. Just look at its actions in the SCS and ECS. I guess I digressed.

Is it? You won't use the F-35 to attack other nuclear powers.
If necessary - you will. That's the point - if you can fight with top adversary - most probably you can do it against others. The other way around is a recipe for a disaster.
1.I don't remember nuclear weapons flying left and right over Korea and Vietnam. Neither they flew when mercenaries were caught last year in Syria. 'cause launching strategic nukes is counterproductive to the very first purpose of the military - defence of your own homeland. Launching shiny and flashy things is a game of two(or more).
2.China has a directly stated "no first use" policy. With Russia it is a bit complicated, but you won't put "the very survival of the Russian state into a question" that simply.
3.F-35 is one of the most potent tactical nuclear delivery systems in its own right. So if nuclear war - well, ok.
Btw, while Russia is in a good position(and won't remain idle), China still easily can loose a nuclear war against the US after a counterforce strike. But - can't win.

So what's the point?
Just see Israel attacking Syria as an example. They're attacking Syria with F-16s.
Stand off munitions, launched from far away, have a lot of restrictions.
1, they carry much weaker warheads for the same mass than bombs.
2, they are much more vulnerable to EW.
3, only man-in-the-loop type systems allow any decisions on place. Not only their sensors are incomarably weak, this very data link is the first and the simplest thing to jam.
4, stand-off munitions(or loyal wingman-type drones), capable of looking for moving and/or new targets on land on their own are still a sci-fi. Expensive future tech.
F-35 is a strike/reconnaissance platform at the same time.

And there are more. Long story short, while stories of 4.5th generation being unviable anymore are just... stories, ability to go in, personal and close is definitely something to strive for.

5th generation fighter-bomber as a core of your force is a real thing, a game-changing vehicle far more important than shiny "i shoot down everyone" air dominance platforms. It's just what it isn't for everyone, all 5th gen force structure is incredibly expensive, blth directly and indirectly. In post-cw the US managed to get it going(and all of their direct allies will get it as a consequence).
Trying to deny this achievement - incredible achievement, - is delusional...
