It would be a mistake on my part. In Chinese, both rail gun and coil gun are categorized under the term electromagnetic gun ("电磁炮"). "电磁方向的武器" includes every weapon system that use electromagnetism. Since he mentioned passive/soft-kill CIWS, I suspect those would include EMP or directed energy weapons.

Quite frankly. This "Freedom of Navigation" FONOPs is getting a bit tiresome. It is basically a PR exercise for folks back home.
Born out by the fact every transit in SCS/Taiwan Strait is broadcast loud and clear to all western media. It's purly for propoganda purpose.
And let's face it. No country outside of the SCS/taiwan strait gives two monkeys about it. Only USA (due to her own insecurity and reluctance to reliquish control) and any nation that US managed to coerce into "JOINT FONOPs" to go up and down the waterways of SCS.
It's laughable some of these nations that goes along with the US acting as they were some important and powerful nation (UK and Australia for example) would never had dare to go do it on their own without the backing of big brother USA.
There will come a time when all this futile gesture must stop. The sooner the better!
I think this news is probably more relevant for a US military news thread than for PLAN breaking news.
The direct relevance of FONOPs and such to the PLAN is marginal at best unless the PLAN does anything notable during such encounters.
After all there are always US FONOPs every few months and USN remarks towards the PLAN as well, but they're not really news from the PLAN -- like new commissionings, launches, technology or systems developments or opinions from the Chinese side.
