The generator put into production lately was the 20MW unit for future IEP ships. It was first reported about a year ago, I think. Now the news confirms it is in production.

Type 055 uses generators of 5MW. So the new unit can be used in future versions of Type 055

I've read this core component is more about power generation. The tech can be applied for other uses with varied amounts of effort.

an LM2500 is twenty (20) MW (off top of my head) so you may ask yourself a question if there's such thing as three-hundred (300) MW gas turbine, I mean naval of course

It's funny that you should say that, because I've just read today the thing is more about power generation. Chill out and blame SCMP. I never said anything about naval applications; in fact I explicitly said it is a stretch to even imply that.

sorry if I mistook you for a fanboi claiming 330 MW turbine on
Type 055
LOL generously assuming a fuel consumption of 0.2 kg per kWh (LM2500 is 0.227),
for a two-weeks sail she would've needed 14*24*0.2*330e3 = 22176000 kilos, about 22 thousand tons, of fuel on board

The 300MW versions are for large factories or power plants to generate electricity. They are for commercial use, so efficiency and cost are the top priority. Yes the technology may be related to military but it is not a direct application. This should not be confused with the power source of future 055s. It is sort of misleading for SCMP to link the two.

........300MW级F级重型燃气轮机这样的大型燃气轮机......

F-class means industrial frame type gas turbine. The largest do come in sizes up to 300 MW. GE F9 class is an example. But these are specifically designed from ground up for static installation, large mass flow, high power output, narrow operating range and high thermal efficiency. Being heavy industrial installations, they have maintenance and servicing requirements unsuited for shipboard use.

Marine gas turbines are mostly derived designs based aerospace turboprop or turbofan engines. These may come in sizes up to 80 MW. GE LM2500 and LM6000 are examples. They are most suited for applications where compact size, self-contained installation, service accessibility, and large operating range are more important than high power output and thermal efficiency. So they are better suited for shipboard use, and for use in remote locations on land.

Beautiful, capable, and lethal ship. But I wonder when we re going to see some of the other vessels out there in trials. Seems like they may have built them too fast to gt them crewed up to do trials so quickly...and that's fine. They may well have scheduled it that way for their own reasoning.
