I didn't know you had time to build "little straw men" Bub, but quoting CNN about the war in Afghanistan?? is OFF topic???

and besides if the F-35 were to be completely "invisibile" like the Marvel Comics X men bird?? you'd still not believe in stealth, even though, not seeing would be believing??

I've always been old and cranky, and skeptical!

but bringing up Barack Obama's re-involvement, and complete and total screw up in Afghanistan, has nothing to do with the F-35 being second only to the F-22, as a "stealthy", very dangerous combat aircraft,,, as in dangerous for the "bad guys".

Today at 8:22 AM I talked in the context of the conversation which has begun in J-20 Thread and which was about an overkill of sending 5Gen aircraft against soft targets in 'stan,

and on one side it's good for the Pentagon to have a proving ground of about the size of Texas (that's what I meant by "technically you're right" Today at 8:22 AM),

but on the other side there're strategic implications (that's why I linked what General Dunford had to say);

I'll now reconstruct that conversation here:

True but at the cost of fuel. The super cruise let's it do it without reheat.
And stealth means it can do it behind enemy lines.
Where a F15E doing that would be exposed to potential attack and burning more fuel.

Now my point is not to try and make J20 seem like a striker but it should be able to as well.
what exactly do you mean by "should be able" here?

it's the Pentagon using Raptors against dope Nov 20, 2017
cross-posting from

I doubt J-20 would be used that way

and then I reacted (already in F-35 Thread Yesterday at 6:08 PM) just to this chunk:
@Jura you point to that article which is fine, but as any one should be able to say the stealth is a bit over kill in that yet both American fifth gens have cut there teeth there, why? Not to just prove a point but to prove it.

i was playing DCS and had f22 dream, i chased that f35 down and whooped its ass XD.

made me think, even if the f35 hits its target, enemy jets can scramble and chase it down.

So you were playing a video game? And a dream...
Well can't argue with that!.....
Oh wait I can ITS VIDEO GAME!
Enemy forces can try to scramble to intercept but it's not likely that the F35 will be alone.
Video games especially flight and vehicle simulators isolate you down to one zone and one vehicle alone. That you are in.
But if F35 does make a strike mission and the Opfor takes damage and launches fighters they will run into the escorts of the F35. This is not one on one it's one plus the whole arsenal behind him.

Japan to buy 100 F-35s beyond the 42 already on order; Purchase to include unspecified number of F=35Bs for operation from the Izumo class carriers. As 100 F-35As are required to replace half the F-15 fleet one for one, that potentially means around 42 Bravos included in the deal:

Strictly speaking, it is a valid concern. (vulnerability of a bomber after strike)
But for a strike fighter, f-35 has reasonable specs to avoid interception.
It is slow accelerating by fighter standards, sure, but at "macro level" of intrrcept timings it is still very good.
