Guys, this thread is not suppose to have any discussion, and you boys have dragged this out for like 10 pages..obviously no one's opinion will change, just drop it.

What opportunities are you offering them in detention?

You seem to be under the impression that keeping them with their children means they get free refugee status.

To help Italian tourists. They are in the very same position as the Chinese in Europe, not able to speak the local language, subjected to crimes by fake police, extorsion of street trickster and venders, communication problem with local police when in trouble, not knowing local laws.

Although there are a great surge of number of Chinese tourists in Europe which has caught the headline of media, foreign tourists have been in many Chinese cities for a long time, and the number is equally big.

So if Italy or Croatia agree to the deal, it is only reasonable to grant the favor in return. It is the same as consulate office, if Italy approves China to have on in Milan, China is obliged to approve one for Italy in Hangzhou if requested. In case of Croatia, number of tourists from it may be too small for Croatia to justify dispatching their police to China. Italy and others (France, Germany, Spain, UK etc.) may very well feel the need.

It is practical measures to attract tourists by providing safety. It is mutual beneficiary. If it was a PR stunt it would have been reported by state media first, but so far I got that link only from DWnews, a Chinese language site in USA.

I have a hard time believing foreign tourists need special police in Hangzhou, of all places!

I have been to both Paris and Hangzhou, and Hangzhou is far safer than Paris.
