LONDON (AP) — Britain's Met Office weather forecasting service has issued its first thunderstorm alert in the agency's 164-year history.

The official forecasters say torrential rain, hail and lightning are possible Sunday in parts of southwest England and Wales as a long, dry heatwave persists in much of Britain.

The forecasting service introduced the thunderstorm alert system last month along with a system to warn residents about expected lightning strikes.

The Met Office is also warning of potential hazardous driving conditions in regions hit by the predicted storms.

High temperatures and sunny conditions have brought tens of thousands of people to Britain's coastal towns and cities.

London's many riverside pubs have also been filled with revelers, some buoyed by England's strong World Cup performance so far.

the whole point is what you do if you're NOT connected to the Internet LOL
A joke says: Microsoft says "people who do not connect to the internet does not exist". Wherever on earth I go to, the first thing is the get my smart phone connected to the internet. So what about you?

Anyway, does this table help?

for a quick orientation I remember 50 F = 10 C and then add/subtract 20 F for 10 C

(LOL I know it's inaccurate for example 20 C is 68 F, not 70 F; or 30 F is -1 C, not 0 C; as I now found out using your link)

I'm 64 years old. I live in the US. I don't do the metric system. Period.

Also I don't have a smart phone. Don't need it. My wife has two. I don't even answer text messages on my old school flip phone.

As for the weather today in Cedar Rapids Iowa USA;

Sunny, warm
Temps: 83-88(28C - 31C)
Wind: S 5-10 mph (8km - 16km)

Tonight: Mostly clear, nice
Temps: 60-65(15.5 - 18)
Wind: SE 5-10 mph (8km - 16km)

It will be comfortable to start the day with dry air in place behind a cold front. It will be sunny and warm with temperatures in the mid 80s this afternoon. It will get a little humid in the afternoon, but the humidity will be much higher Tuesday through Thursday.

Temperatures will be near and above 90 Tuesday through Thursday. Humidity will be high and heat index values will be between 95 to 105 each day. The 4th is going to be sunny, hot, and humid - make sure you're staying cool and hydrated during outdoor activities.

Another cold front will sweep through on Thursday and produce showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. That will break the heat during the end of the week with temperatures knocked back into the mid 80s.
