Annoyed at the constant stream of news articles

I'm going to try to keep this as respectful as possible. I have nothing against the poster personally, but his posting pattern is affecting my enjoyment of this forum.

When I go to a forum, I'm looking for discussions and exchanges of ideas on topics I am interested in. If I wanted to just read the news, I would go to google news.

Right now, there is a poster that does almost nothing but put up news articles, with nothing to promote any kind of discussion. As a consequence, whenever I look at the list of new posts, all I see are this poster's name, and any discussion other forumites have posted get lost.

I'm not looking to prevent anyone from posting news, but could we please consolidate the news articles into a single or a few threads, instead of putting them in everywhere?

I just got an alert that the poster you're talking about just posted to a thread I'm watching. I'm betting it's another news article.

I've kept to browsing as the board finds its way with the new admin setup (great to see Deino receive full mod powers and use them in a balanced way), and have noticed this as well. Not sure if we are seeing it from the same source or not but..

Articles are posted with a handful of words mostly just letting us know that the poster has -literally- just read the article, which is great I suppose if not already assumed, and little analysis or opinion to go with it. Comes across as a low effort one liner post.

What I find more frustrating though is when someone replies to this person and asks a question or generally attempts a discussion, the poster responds with another very few handful of words and often quotes another long article or the same one just posted, filling up the thread with repeat info and little to no back and forth. It at times appears this poster takes offense to questions or people trying to engage and accuses them of trolling for making the attempt to get more than a couple of words on the subject. I've seen this in the Strategy and Naval threads in particular.

Not sure how you sort that out with rules. Maybe its just up to other members to challenge the poster to offer up more substantive replies that don't have the poster reverting to repeat quotes. And mods understanding that eliciting discussion from someone posting in a thread =/= trolling. Seems reasonable to me anyway; if you can't offer an opinion and back it up with some substance when questioned (doesn't have to be "right" or "wrong"), then what is the point of being part of a discussion forum?

I thought news threads do not allow discussions as there is a great potential for it to go sideways.

The problem is that this posting pattern is not restricted to news threads.

For example, we already have a China Economic News thread. If you want to share news, consider posting in that thread. The Trade War thread should be mainly for discussions.

Further, if you want to share a news article, at least post some comments that can generate a discussion.

In any case, I think we have too many news threads as it is. A forum should be for discussion.

Hello, you've quoted my post here in the Feedback & Suggestions thread of the board, but I don't see a comment or question. Can you please clarify? Cheers.

@solarz

A huge request, because for me this vague hint is too unclear and due to a death in the family I currently have no time for long searches or quizzes, but maybe you could email me via PM and we discuss this internally?

Unfortunately, although my skills as a moderator are restored, I still can not start any conversation.

Best,
Deino

Thanks for the response!

My intention was not to request moderator intervention, but to rather raise awareness about the issue and hopefully come to an understanding with my fellow forumites.

My opinion is that we should keep the news in the news threads as much as possible. If you post an article in a non-news thread, please accompany it with some comments that can promote discussion. Please do not just post an article and say nothing about it. On the same vein, please do not quote someone and then say nothing.
