Hello!

Been trying to find out some info on older PLAAF types and really hit a brick wall :-( hoping someone has some information! :)

The q-5d seems to be a hard type to get some info on; has it been verified what the piece of equipment forward of the nosegear is? Looks like flir/photo recon equip or even for doppler navigation?

Conversly its nearly impossible to find cockpit photos of any type other than the base version! Im wonder if the q5 cockpit in BF4 has any basis in reality??

First of all hello ... and second it is pure FAKE !

This is a Q-5 cockpit (to admit an older one but yours is at least IMO not one)

And this is a J-7C cockpit:

Hey Deino! Long time, no see from arcforum days! :)

yea i suspected it might be a fake, but hey! call me hopeful ;)

yea I've seen that Q5 cockpit photo, and the PAF/BAF ones are pretty similar, with what looks like a mount for a radio

unfortunately, that's not a J-7C cockpit photo - the narrow nose and pitot boom (though probably a good guess as to the general layout)

here's a compilation of what i've pieced together so far:

for the 'Fantan' only thing else ive seen is some minor mods for the PAF/BAF(pictured):

Thanks for your reply, and wellcome back old mate ! ;)

Concerning my mistake you are indeed correct, it is most likely a JJ-7. These images were all from a series of some fine images showing several J-7C and D together with JJ-7/-7A.

However I added a few notes to your collage, where I think they are actualyl showing a J-7D.... and this might indeed have a different HUD to the J-7C.

To admit ... i never noticed and never took care about. So thanks a lot and I hope you keep this topic alive....

Best,
Deino

cheers!!!

Thanks for adding in the info! - sometimes i worry i got a bit OCD on trying to find out these details! really find the older attempts to modernise aircraft fascinating!

now the trumpeter kits out, and been looking into the fantan...surprised the PAF versions were vanilla variants without the laser ranger! as for the D's - would love to know what this is all about with what appears to be dual "windows":
