It might not need to be if the exercise is confined within a certain space, or if the combat is WVR and thus won’t involve sustained supersonic flight. The L-15 wouldn’t need to be in the fray, just close enough to follow events.

depends on what you hang on the "wing tip hardpoints",, and those hard points can be changed through the course of production, the needs of an individual squadron depending on their mission could vary wing tip hardpoints.

Wingtips? You mean the pylons? They are not the same type of aircraft. Top pic is a J-11/11A, the bottom is a J-11B. J-11 carries wingtip R-73 or ECM pods while the J-11B is optimized for PL-8 and no ECM pods. ECM pod is carried underwing in the J-11B.
