Mods, I think we ought to rename the CV-001a thread to CV-002 and this thread to something else.
Well, we do not know that any offical designation like that exists.

We know that 001 is the Liaoning, CV-16.

001A has been used because CV-17 is clearly a carrier of the same class, and represents a Chinese indigenous version of a class that already exists...thus the "A".

We do not know what CV-18 will be, except we do know it is a different class and almost assuredly represents a CATOBAR carrier.

Thus, as a new class it would get a different principle number and that is why we have given it a "2".

Ultimately, when we are sure that it is CV-18, it il become just the CV-18 page.

Right now, the CV-17 is the CV-17 thread with the 001A in parens. Ultimately, when we are positive of the Shandong name (which we believe is the name now), the parens and the old 001A will go away and it will become simply the CV-17 Shandong Thread.

And ultimately the same will occur with CV-18. Once we are sure it is CV-18 it will become the CV-18 thread with the 002 in parens, and then when we are sure of its name, the parens will disappear and its name will be there next to the CV-18.

CV-17 isn't for shure. May be, it is calles Type 001A "CV-2"? We don' t know any number or name.

We know, it is the second carrier and the first home-build carrier.

If 003 the designation exists, it can only mean the CV18 which is now said to be nuclear powered and EMAL. But it seems it will take along time to build CV18 because all of the subsystems are new and will need time to integrate.
