Cam a knowledgeable poster in fission fuel explain what exactly is meant by increasing fuel usage from 1% to 95%? That statistic looks very strange to me.

Maybe the reporter want to say that only 0.72%(U235) of natural uran can directly be use as fissionable material, but 99.27% of natural uran is U238 and can not directly be used as fissionable material, first you have to transmute it to plutonium P239.

as the world leader in clean energy technology deployment, so it is no surprise that the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has partnered to enhance existing cooperation to further advance China’s energy transition under global and regional initiatives — including the Paris Climate Agreement and China’s own Belt and Road Initiative. More specifically, the framework of the agreement signed by the two entities provides for opportunities to collaborate on activities related to integrating higher shares of wind and solar capacity, better grid integration — a significant issue in China, which casts a pall over the massive capacity numbers they achieve each year — interconnection, and smart grids.

My own supposition: for 1000 MW-scale, maybe traditional fossil-fuel is cheaper; for distributed or low-MW use, e.g. consumer-level, renewables and nat-gas is cheaper].

Great to see China cooperating with the international community on renewable energy. China is the worst polluter in the world, and efforts to reduce its emission is welcomed by all.

Essentially, the accelerator in the reactor design produce fission material on the fly by transmuting non-critical to critical.
That means most of today's nuclear waste (sub-critical, useless) can be burnt by this new type of reactor.

Great to see China cooperating with the international community on renewable energy. China is the worst polluter in the world, and efforts to reduce its emission is welcomed by all.
so basically the western company moves all the polluting factories and high power demanding (high pollution) industries to China and enjoy the cheap output from China with China paying the cost, then blame China for pollution?

That sounds like, slave master blame the slave for not enjoying life, not wearing proper clothes. Don't you think?
