China needs to speed up the nuke powered carriers. Those are the real workhorse. And during wartime, oil supply will be limited, alot of those conventional powered ships will be out of businesses. Nuke powered carriers and subs are the only real workhorse during wartime.

Not really.

Every major nation has a strategic reserve.

Even Japan, whose access to oil was severely limited in WW II fought a HUGE naval war for four years against the US.

You would find, in war time, the nations that had ships powered by steam and gas turbines ensuring that their resources allowed them to fight with those ships through months, and if necessary, even years of combat operations.

Do not get me wrong, for the nations that can do it, having nuclear carriers and subs and other vessels is good.

The US has 11 nuclear carriers and over 50 nuclear subs.

There is only one another nation with a nuclear carrier right now...and they have one of them...the french.

I expect it will be another one or two carriers (probably two) before China makes the leap to nuclear powered carriers...we shall see.

China is proceeding pretty fast already. You don't go from 0 to 100 overnight. Do people realize how much progress is required to get to nuke powered carriers?

From 1944 the Japanese Fleet movement was limited and using Borneo oïl do ships much more vulnerable with this fuel very volatile ( Taiho her best CV sunk due to this ) and also warships forced to be based close Singapore for be close or oïl fields could not be repaired the shipyards in Japan problem for ammos also.

BTW USN do amazing job to Ulithi with a an improvised base even some tankers sunked to serve as tanks unusual !

Yes...late in the war, as the US closed off the access to more of her oil, the Japanese experienced more and more difficulties and were less and less capable of major movement.

The Yamato was sent on a suicide mission as a result of this (in part). They simply did not have the fuel to send her off and have enough to get back in any case.

I suppose the Yamato qwas the biggest Kamikazi of the war.

You guys forget China is one of the largest oil producers in the world. 4th or 5th. Higher than most OPEC countries. They produce 4 million barrel a day (more than Canada). It is about 1/4 of what they use now, but with the pipelines to Russia and central Asia, half of their oil requirements can be fulfilled. So during a war there would be enough if civilian usage is restricted.

During war, those pipelines would be bombed too. At least with countries that can defend themselves.
