The First Type 818 cutter based on the Type 054A frigate is coming along fine with the second one under construction in the back. Along side it is the Type 718B. These photos were posted on 31 october its more than a month old. Hopefully she will be out to sea soon.

76mm, not unprecedented.

legend class has slightly smaller 57mm gun, older Hamilton class had 76mm gun

@Ironman- Guns look fine to me. Frankly, I think CCG should have 30mm cannons on all their smaller cutters and 76mm cannons on larger ones. Arming its cutters only bring China's Coast Guard in line with most other nations' CGs, so any whining from Japanese and westerners could be ignored.

And those coutries aside from US is? Not to even mention that US CG don't come in constant contact with other countries ships like Chinese do all the time. Japanese don't mind them as they would simply sink those in no time if it had fired on Japanese soil or ships anyway.

There aren't that many coast guards in the world with cutters in the displacement he's talking about.

But of the nations which do, USCG, JCG, KCG cutters are all fairly sensibly armed for their different sizes.... as are the CCGs cutters.


Not sure what sinking has to do with anything, the subject is only talking about armament. I think you might be projecting a little.

If "Japanese don't mind them" then Japanese can stop complaining when they sail through the Diaoyu's, but we both know if Japan could actually fight its own fights, Abe wouldn't be seeking reassurance from Trump every week that the US wouldn't neglect the "stability of Asia."

Bulbous bows are most efficient when a vessel is traveling mostly in higher range of speed. If these vessels will specifically spend more of their time patrolling at slow speeds or maintaining presence, then the bulbous bow is not a priority.

The US CG doesn't come into contact as often with other countries' ships partly because of sheer geography. Lots of vast open ocean facing the East and West coasts.
