ISIS/ISIL conflict in Syria/Iraq (No OpEd, No Politics)

According to the BBC website (

Defending Damascus?

That is quite a stretch, even from you Jura. Care to share the source of the forthcoming major terrorist offensive that threatens to overwhelm the City?

What I saw last night was a map showing a simple rump of the Southern Salient

Which compares to the edmap of 5th May

Which makes last nights map look like nothing more than a rearguard action as the terrorists fled into the main Eastern Ghouta territory.

If troops are being brought down to Damascus from other fronts, I put it to you that it is to join the forces already freed up yesterday, to continue to further dissect and collapse this terrorist nest and progressively free up more and more manpower for key strategic objectives.

I read several times that the "rebels" will loose there standing in Geneva if Al Nusra and its friends are defeated at Aleppo. To win there SAA needs large reserves, especially to discourage Turkish intervention. By cleaning up the environs of Damascus those reserves can be made available.

the second sentence reads
Хезболла заявила, что меняет свою стратегию в сирийской войне - выходит из Алеппо и сосредотачивает свои усилия по обороне Дамаска и объектов вдоль ливанской границы.
(where the typo in усилия needs to be corrected (it's "училия" in the blog) or an automatic translation fails badly LOL) and now I ran it through google-translate for your convenience:
Hezbollah said it is changing its strategy in the Syrian war - out of Aleppo and focuses its efforts on the defense of Damascus and objects along the Lebanese border.
just for the case you thought I had misinterpreted what the blogger said ... in the morning I actually checked yandex.ru, found for example (now my translation):

The U.S. military is trying to psych out ISIS by letter bombing its capital in Syria
Warning of a major attack on the Islamic State group's capital, aircraft flying over the Syrian city of Raqqa on Friday dropped thousands of leaflets urging residents to flee.

“It’s time to leave the city,” reads one of the leaflets, which shows an sketch of people running away from a black-and-white ISIS sign and into an open green field. The images were being shared on social media.

U.S. military officials in Washington declined to comment on the leaflets Friday afternoon.

that the leaflets were being distributed from U.S. warplanes, and quoted an American official who suggested they're being used as a form of psychological warfare — “It’s part of our mess-with-them campaign,” the official said — rather than to warn of an imminent attack.

On Wednesday, a spokesman for U.S. troops in Iraq said the American-backed Syrian-Arab Coalition, or SAC, has been growing and will target Raqqa eventually.

“The SAC is continuing to gain strength, it's continuing to grow, and we'll continue to build up in posture for an eventual move against Raqqa. That's what our focus is,” said Army Col. Steve Warren, the spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve.

In April Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced plans to send more U.S. troops to Syria, expanding the force of special operations troops from 50 to 300. Those troops will advise friendly militias and help coordinate U.S. air strikes with the militant’s ground attacks on ISIS.

U.S. warplanes dropped leaflets over Raqqa in July 2015 that declared "Freedom is coming."

Hezbollah leader promises more fighters to Syria

The Secretary General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, promised during his televised speech that the Lebanese Resistance is prepared to send more fighters to Syria than ever before.

“The martyrdom of our commanders will not affect our military operations. We are preparing for a much larger role in Syria,” the Hezbollah leader asserted on Friday.

Sayyed Nasrallah’s speech on Friday was a tribute to the late Hezbollah commander, Mustafa Badreddine, who was killed last weekend by an enemy artillery attack near the Damascus International Airport.

Israel was originally blamed for the death of Mustafa Badreddine; however, Sayyed Nasrallah confirmed during his televised speech that they were not behind the attack.

Following the commemoration of Mustafa Badreddine, Hezbollah’s Secretary General slammed Saudi Arabia for their destructive policies in the Middle East, citing Yemen and Syria as the prime examples of the Gulf nation’s failed foreign policy.

Sayyed Nasrallah would conclude his speech by promising to defeat the terrorist forces in Syria.
Which makes sense. With the experience and prestige gained in Syria Hezbollah will be better able to discourage foreign intervention in Lebanon. I recently saw an article about Saudi plans to support violence in Lebanon against Hezbollah.
Hezbollah will also find it easy to win recruits for its forces because of that prestige and because of the economic situation in Lebanon.

ISIS loses 30+ terrorists amid the Syrian Army’s advance in west Deir Ezzor

The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) had a rough start to the weekend in Deir Ezzor, thanks in large part to the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard.

On Friday, ISIS attempted to launch a counter-attack near the Panorama Checkpoint in west Deir Ezzor; however, this assault would prove costly, as they lost several fighters before retreating west along the International Highway.

Following ISIS’ failed assault, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Brigade – backed by the 137th Artillery Brigade of the Republican Guard and Hashd Al-Sha’abi (Iraqi paramilitary) – conducted their own counter-attack that resulted in a steady advance towards the Armenian Cemetery.

According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Armed Forces killed an estimated 30+ ISIS fighters on Friday, including several foreign fighters from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco.

The Syrian Armed Forces are still on the move tonight, targeting the remaining ISIS fighters at the Armenian Cemetery’s eastern perimeter.

In addition to the Syrian infantry’s assault, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) has launched a series of overnight airstrikes that targeted ISIS’ defenses at the Tayyem Valley near the Tayyem Oil Fields.
What else is happening near Deir Ezzor, Jura?

Didn't see this posted anywhere yet, and this seemed the most appropriate place for it.

Turkish AH1W super cobra brought down by Kurdish fighters in the Turkish-Iraqi boarder regions.

The shoot down was reported to have occurred on the 13th of May, yet a week later, not a peep in the mainstream western news outlets.

That plan if implemented does solve Turkeys Kurdish problem by removing the problem from their hands. It would've also solved EU's Turkish problem by making Turkey a pure Asian Country (part of the plan will give the European Turkish land to Russia). what an irony!
