In the recent stride 2015 stage D, a type 59 did some "fury" type.

Last surviving tank of the company lost its communication to HQ. The crew decided to keep attacking, and took out multiple enemy vehicle when dodging ten missiles. After depleting all ammunition (tank shells and MG rounds), they abandon the tank on the path of blue force as a roadblock and get back "alive".

At least Brad Pitt get some follow Sherman to take shots for him.

Impressive. Hope this is not because their laser tag equipment malfunctioned. Important lessons to be learned as to why those 10 missiles missed as well as how the Type 59 dodged them. All the more shame that these troops are not equipped with a better tank.

The director department has checked the laser tag and said the tank is alive and its hit on enemy considered effective. Smoke and some smart maneuver is how they dodge the missile. Shot first also helps.

Can't believe this old thing is still not being replaced.

why? Type 59 latest variant/upgrade is still very effective against all Chinese bordering countries apart from Russia. Type 59 also lighter, suit more for Southern China

Nothing wrong at all with Type 59 latest variant

And who would dare to attack China with ground force (tank) ?, even the USA has abandoned the concept long time ago even when China was still backward country

China is very confident of its ground force, it has an extremely modern and powerful ground force (~200K elite soldiers) and reasonably modern ground force for the rest of the soldiers

Uhhh...sorry for being off topic, but I wouldn't put my bet on a force whose individual infantry equipment only cost the same amount as two iphones. Yes, I am sure many of them are well-trained physically, but I march onto a modern battlefield with 1970s equipment. Even ISIS fighters wear modern body armour, while we barely see any PLA troops wearing them. I talked to a former PLA officer before, and he said it is not necessary to use body armour during peacetime training. But he failed to answer what if soldiers are suddenly ordered to wear body armour during a crisis, and they are not used to it?
As with type 59II tanks (and older type 59s), while their L7 105mm guns could fire Tungsten (and DU) kinetic penetrators, their engines are way too outdated (580 horsepower only, your got to be kidding me), and they could be easily penetrated by a well-aimed RPG shot. Although tanks like type 59Ds, 79s, 88s have better armor and possibly 730hp engines, their overall capabilities are only similar to that of the American M60A3 tanks and British Centurions (which are both 1950s designs).

what country would want to have a land war with China ? Chinese ground force is already strong enough against any invasion. The focus is Navy, Airforce and 2nd artillery.

Regarding body armour, why would you waste your money for nothing. The Chinese elite force (~200K) is already use it regularly, not all the time

Body armour technology is also improving every month, why would you want to stock too may body armours which would be useless after a few years.

Chinese technology and capability to produce high quality and advanced body armour is unquestionable

I don't see China would need to mobilise more than 200K soldiers in near future anyway

I definitely agree with the fact that China has the technology and capability, but from an economic perspective, wouldn't it be more effective to keep buying them so the R&D money do not go wasted. Also, but keeping the factories running, these armament factories could get more experience in mass producing high-quality defense products, while creating more jobs. Yes, that could lead to a temporary deficit (like the U.S.) as a result of massive defense acquisition, but that'a also how U.S. (WWII GDP growth as a result of armament production) finally recovered from the Great Depression. This may sound a bit crazy, and I don't think China needs to spend the same amount as the U.S. in terms of tanks and infantry equipment, but you also don't want your R&D money go wasted as they don't generate any returns. From and economic AND strategic perspective, you want to keep your military-industrial complex profitable. Btw if there's a Chinese armament industry thread, maybe we should move this conversation there.

Have you seen the latest gear worn by the Chinese peacekeepers? They all wear advanced body armor. So they do equip their combat units with body armor. It's completely wasteful to equip all 2 million PLA soldiers with body armor during peace time when the armor typically expire I a few years. And bear in mind that most of the photos we see on the web are not elite units. I mean this is simply a probability thing. You will have less chance seeing the elite units because they are elite and there are less of them.
