A Vietnamese Out Post Is So Close

Excellent post A.Man!

Remarkable series of photos shows are really massive effort on the part of the Chinese in this area.

They not only have:

1) a ship carrying gravel/sand/foundation and construction materials, but also

2) a concrete-mixing batching plant, (implying they intend to do rapid pouring and forming)

3) earth-moving machinery, (including several large cranes - for loading and off-loading equipment/supplies)

4) what appears to be fuel/liquid storage tanks (and tanker trucks),

5) a vessel that seems to be housing for the workers (as well as other auxiliaries like supply barges),

6) other support and supply vessels and a Jiangwei II frigate for defense.

Impressive effort, not likely to be easily matched by any other completing claimants in the South China Sea.

China needs to build more of these islands to challenge every single foreign outposts there in SCS to protect its sovereignty and interest. I can imagine the report from those Vietnamese post commander having to report and update of the current events to their superiors about the possible challenges ahead of them.

China will easily get the jobs (reclamation and massive constructions) done in no time. I wouldn't be surprised by end of 2014, a very modern facilities established there with land area several times larger than the original reef. I believe at least 10km2 can be reclamated

That change is started by VIETNAM from last half year to now.
here is some photo which show ealier .
So then, did Vietnam do some construction on their portion of Johnson South Reef, and then the Chinese have come in and are doing what appears to be even massively larger construction?

Is that what is happening there?

Some of the facilities we see seem to be within site of each other, but that shows a small Vietnamese installation across from major Chinese construction.

But one of the pictures you included showed more of an island with trees. Is that a Vietnamese part of Johnson South Reef too? If so, where is it in relation to the construction we are seeing?

For example:

Is this the construction/facilities the Vietnamese have on Johnson South Reef:

And then is this what the Chinese are building directly across from it, within sight?
