So far we have only seen 552, 553 and 554 land on the Liaoning. I hope we get to see 555 and 556 and perhabs even 551 land on the Liaoning as well.

Just want to clarify, that photo of the "554" with a pair of WS-10A was taken before that plane participated in the current carrier landing trial isn't it?

Better yet, hope to see a whole lot of brand spanking new J-15s on the flight deck!
... OR even still better if we get photos of the twin seated J-15S joining the carrier trial!

Re: PLAN Carrier Construction

If those persons over there at BRW really knew Jeff Head they would not be calling him a racist...unbelievable.

What is BRW?

PE or Kwag. What are those pylon looking things on the sides of a carriers flight deck and what are they used for.

Are you talking about these?

If so they are call whip antennas.. mainly for MF and HF radio transmissions. They are lowered during flight operations for obvious reasons!!!

Well, I do not want to speak for BIB, but some of the posters on the PLAN Carrier thread asked about these markers on the ski jump. You can see the one raised there forward of and to the left of the firefighting equipment, and then several there on the starboard side of the ski-jump.

...and some more seen in the same location on the ski-jump in this picture in some heavier swells.

...and here in calmer seas.

Re: PLAN Carrier Construction

To Jeff and Kwag

There it is its in a lowered position in the three photos in Jeffs previous post in front of the two raised whip atennaes. Im sure I have seen it also raised. In its lowered position it looks like one of those barrier gates.

Oh I see, you are talking about the horizontal support right on the starboard bow. That does not raise. It may fold back against the hull, though I have not seen it in that position. If holds some sensors, lights, cameras, and other equipment out from the bow there.

I would still like to know what purpose those small raised sqaaure like items are.

Jeff, I believe those look like illuminators probably for practice landing takeoff or some sort of a visual guide for the pilots etc. I'm 99% sure they are not part of the deck... and was manually placed there.

As to the 'pylon' question by B.I.B I think I know what you're talking about now. It's probably just run of the mill type sensors, wind gauge, barometric sensors , radio antennas etc. Call it the pitot tube for Liaoning LOL

Nothing exotic of top secret there.
