It is fairly dangerous to estimate institutional performance at one part of learning curve by extrapolating from performance when it was at an earlier, lower part.

How long did it take for the Chinese to hammer out a useable version of the J-8?

Ongoing projects are still behind schedule. This leads to the obvious conclusion that India has yet to reach a higher point on their learning curve and has shown little indication otherwise. Arjun, Kolkata, LCA are all current ongoing projects and are not part of an "earlier, lower" point on their learning curve. Considering that MCA is a current project, and India's other current projects are behind schedule, it's logical to think that MCA will be similarly delayed.

By the way even if not exactly the same angle of view I think the canards are still the same and it seems as if it stil has a '2002'-like pitot !

There shouldn't be any difference, as changes to aerodynamics now would invalidate those flight tests conducted over the past few years. All those rumors about changes we are hearing now are just fan boys dreams of seeing changes for the sake of seeing changes.

There might be some changes if they need to adjust the aerodynamics of the plane, or else feel the need to tweak the design in ways that don't affect aerodynamics that much. That said, changing the canard shape would be a pretty big change, but there's really no need to speculate about that anymore since it's pretty clear now that there were no changes to the canards.

Pleeeeeeeaaaaase .......

Very Sweet, now if someone can photo shop the all-over white with orange tips like the old USN aircraft, even though I'm the Air Force Brat, and my Dad allways wore Olive Drab flight suits, I just loved the Navy Birds and the Pilots had these awesome ORANGE flight suits! Now, I'm afraid all we may see is some fresh paint, but at least we would be seeing "something", come on Chengdu, president Xi, "tear down those walls".

Those canards look like they are "stamped" or hydroformed", I believe the early sixty's Cherokee 140s had a stabilator like that???

Waiting for these photographs is like waiting for a hamburger at Hell's Kitchen. No joke ever intended.

Some folks at F Y J S believe '2011' has a new HUD with a wider field of view. I wonder if this means a more mature avionics suite as well for '2011', perhaps something closer to final specs. Some pics for comparsion (note the HUD on '2011' appears larger and without the thick black frame around it as seen on '2001' and '2002/3'):

You CAN see a bit of a black frame in the picture though. The blur probably makes it look thinner than it actually is.

You could be right... I'm merely paraphrasing what folks at F Y J S were speculating, who never claimed it was frameless. So far, so blurry, in a manner of speaking.

Then again, the 'frame' could just be refraction from the edge of the HUD, especially if the HUD is thick and the edge has a different finish (a la glass lens).

But then again, there does appear to be a frame of some kind holding up the HUD from the bottom, but the said frame does not completely wrap around the HUD in the same manner found on '2001' and '2002/3'. The frame appears to end around the horizontal centerline of the HUD. The portion of the 'frame' above the centerline could just be the aforementioned edge refraction.

Assuming this new HUD exists, there must be a photo somewhere on the interwebs. Oh my and silly me indeed, now would you look at that: it's the very last photo in my previous post.

Back to the blurry photo of '2011', the HUD appears larger in relation to the rest of cockpit instrument cluster, don't you think? Then again, this could just be an optical illusion: it's all about damn angles and contours.

Or is it, assuming the photo is not 'excessively" re-touched?

Hmmm indeed...

That's enough speculation for today, back to Sein und Zeit.

P.S. pardon my front-loaded cheekiness. Apologies if it came across as being snarky sarcasm. Cheers!
