Re: 3 advantages of directing helicopter engine exhaust upwards

Hendrik, that's a WZ-9 not Z-19... and that photo's been around for years.

2 schools of thoughts here:

1. Backup for WZ-10 if the project fell through
2. Lightweight dedicated scout helicopter compliment the WZ-10.

My own take on the WZ-19 is that the PLA's operating experience with the WZ-9 gave it a lot of familiarity with the aircraft - much of which included using it in the ground-attack/support role.

Logically therefore the WZ-19 was borne out of this and was built to the Army's request for a helicopter closer for a gunship while maintaining all the advantages of the WZ-9 heritage and maintenance infrastructure.

The WZ-19 will NOT displace the WZ-10 but complement it.

Both helicopters will operate together - and the WZ-19 will equip the lighter strike-support army-aviation units serving along with the WZ-10.

It will be a big-brother/small-brother relationship.

LOL, this is not that big a deal. Emerging major powers learn from the established. It's no rocket science and neither do you have to be Astrodamus to predict that China will develop these things. In fact it is a necessity in stead of just being favorable for China to possess these technologies.

Those of you that are Chinese or read Chinese probably understand what I'm saying. The netizens on Chinese military sites are overly nationalistic and are daydreaming about a lot of things. In fact they are crazy enough to say that a lot of non-existent projects and weapons to exist. Many of you probably have heard of bullshit rumours of fighter jets named successively from J-12 to J-20, even crazy CG artworks are made up to support these to "prove it".

I'm not saying these are all made up, but majority of confirmations are just simply coincidences. For example, artworks of the J20 were out years before its appearance in Chengdu. There were hundreds of variations. You can tell these were simply done by amateur fanboys fantasizing. Like we all have agreed before, doesn't matter how innovative you are or how advanced a firm may be, there are only few mature designs that you can really use. Therefore it's a mere coincidence that these fantasies coincided with the actual jet.

I'm sure 99.99999999999% of these people aren't in the military industry complex, but rather a 20 years old writing fantasy posts from his college dorm.
