I'm curious if by "much upgraded JF-17s" he means retrofitting some of the current Block 1 and 2 fleet or more Block 3.
The Dy. CAS’s reference to
“more advanced JF-17 variants” during the press briefing is certainly intriguing, though somewhat confusing at this stage. We will likely have to wait for further details or clarification to better understand exactly which variant/configuration he was referring to.
That said, the PAF has already indicated on multiple occasions that it does not intend to invest further in the Block-I/II fleet. Effectively, after the MLU of the Block-I aircraft, the fleet now largely stands at Block-II/III standard. This is why the mention of
“more advanced JF-17s” has sparked further speculation regarding what exactly may be under consideration.
