I still maintain that China should covertly destroy the canal at some point soon. Explode something on a cargo container that happens to be at the locks section that would take the longest time to fix, if ever possible. The US has made it crystal clear they want to destroy China. It would be stupid to not to deal some critical damage to weaken them when they have shown zero compunction for using sabotage and subterfuge themselves. It would greatly damage US shipping (which comprises over 70% of the use of the canal, whereas 2nd is China at only 20%) and would hugely hinder their military naval passage abilities. Plus it would have the bonus of essentially killing Panama and demonstrate to other countries that there are CONSEQUENCES for engaging in activities that harm China.
The 2024 numbers are not much different than 2021 with the US increasing to 74% and China decreasing to 21%.
