Latest update on the program "Sea Sultan" (LRMPA):

Embraer Lineage 1000, serial number 19000203, manufactured in 2009, has officially joined the Pakistan Navy. It marks the fourth aircraft acquired out of 10-12 planned under the Sea Sultan LRMPA conversion project.

Contractors Paramount and Leonardo are overseeing the integration, combining a commercial airframe with cost-effective ISR capabilities as an alternative to the more expensive P-8I platform.

This is the latest (sixth) airframe (N915J). The photo was taken at FAWB (Wonderboom) in Oct'25 at the time of delivery. Visible behind it is the DAPA 737 KFX radar testbed—another converted platform—operated by Paramount Group South Africa on behalf of DAPA.

The first aircraft (A6-HHS) is expected to be handed over to the PN in the coming months, likely around Nov/Dec'26. As the development airframe, it required the most time; however, with the development phase now complete, subsequent aircraft are expected to progress at a significantly faster pace.

In terms of overall program progress, one aircraft is on track for delivery by the end of 2026, while four others are currently in the conversion phase. The sixth airframe was delivered in October last year.

The Pakistan Navy is reportedly planning to induct approximately 10–12 aircraft under the “Sea Sultan” project, further enhancing its maritime domain awareness and operational readiness.

Yes, the platform is intended to be compatible with maritime strike payloads, including torpedoes and other anti-submarine warfare (ASW) weapons, depending on mission configuration and final operational clearance.

It is also expected to feature an internal weapons bay, along with 2–4 underwing hardpoints for additional stores as required by the mission profile.

As per the above press briefing by the Dy. ACM, the key takeaways are:

  1. Next-generation fighters (J35AE??)
  2. Additional J-10Cs
  3. More advanced JF-17 variants

He also mentioned that the groundwork has already been completed for the induction of the above platforms.

Regarding the “more advanced JF-17s,” which block/variant is he referring to?
