Looks like Pakistan still have a lot more issues related to bureaucracy and corruption preventing efficient Gwadar Port operations. Hope it can still be fixed to live up to its' potential.

Hangeng Trade Company said in an official statement that "non-commercial factors" and operational hurdles had made it impossible to continue operations. Despite meeting international export standards, the firm said its shipments remained stalled, pushing the business into a loss-making position.

The company claimed it had remained in contact with authorities for the past three months but saw no resolution, forcing it to take the drastic step. It added that all dues, including three months' salaries, penalties, electricity bills, and container demurrage charges, have been cleared before the shutdown.

While reaffirming that Pakistan and China remain strong economic partners, the firm noted that Gwadar is a flagship project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and that its investment was made in the spirit of bilateral cooperation. However, it stressed that a "clear and workable policy environment" is essential for sustaining business operations.

The company also thanked the Government of Pakistan and the Ministry of Planning for promoting Pak-China economic ties but cautioned potential investors to carefully assess uncertainties before committing to ventures in Gwadar.

for their unwavering support in resolving all pending issues concerning our company’s exports and operations. Their leadership reaffirms that the PM and Minister for Planning are true friends of China and are committed to cutting red tape and facilitating foreign investment. We firmly believe CPEC 2.0 will achieve great success under the Prime Minister’s leadership, further strengthening our iron-clad friendship and shared prosperity. Our company reaffirms its commitment to making CPEC 2.0 a success by full cooperation and helping Pakistan achieve higher exports and contribute to development of Gawadar.

On this could be big depending on how it's implemented. If government says forces China Construction Bank to continue to provide financial services to these refineries then the next step for US would be to sanction Chinese banks, and sanctioning Chinese banks is financial WW3 so it's going to be a game of chicken.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes that the general public is not aware of. I am vaguely connected to the state-owned oil and refinery industry and this is all I dare say on a public forum like SDF:

The US blockade is effective. Tankers and cargo ships that Iran lets through, the US doesn't let through. There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of sailors who have already died from starvation or disease, trapped on the ships unable to escape the Gulf. No solution in sight.

CN refineries will run out of crude reserves at the end of May. They have been ordered by the big boss(es) to keep the refineries running no matter what, perhaps at reduced capacity, but there are no clear instructions as to where a stable supply of crude will come from. Here, we are supposed to cross our fingers and pray. Maybe the big boss(es) have something up their sleeves.

Make of this what you will.

If that is true, then what in the actual fuck is the PLA Navy doing??!!

If 1993 is the Yinhe Incident, then 2026 is going to be one hell of Yinhe Incident on Steroids. Why is Beijing doing nothing??!!

You talk as though Iran is China's only crude supply or that state owned oil companies has no access to state owned oil reserves.

China runs $1.2 trillion trade surplus, US runs $1 trillion trade deficit, there is no game of chicken here, China's just gently reminding America who run the show.
