In one narrow sense, the idea that Washington can push Europe to re-arm without experiencing negative side-effects is almost certainly incorrect. European military-industrial economies of scale will remain very challenging. That doesn't mean that Europe can't build most of the hardware it needs, but it does imply that, in doing so, there would be little scope to also entertain American solutions, just as France or Russia currently have limited scope to entertain non-domestic platforms. Not only would European rearmament depress sales of American military-industrial products into Europe over time, but those additional European products would also compete for global export markets.

... I was thinking this dynamic would become apparent on the scale of years to decades, not weeks. But then Trump has always been an accelerant.

The loss of life is regrettable. Losing vehicles in Lake Baikal happens often enough that there is a well developed practice for retrieving them. In Victor Kossakovsky's documentary film ("audiovisual experience" may be a more apt description) Aquarela, the filmmakers happened to catch the moment a distant vehicle went into the ice, with one of two occupants perishing. The film goes on to show the retrieval process.

I would like to visit the Lake Baikal region one day.

Unsurprising. India has signed up for the US-led "Pax Silica" which is aimed at China.

I don't even understand why India is in BRICS. And I don't understand why BRICS even exist. It's a meaningless organisation.
it's not meaningless, china knew india's misbehaves but there was some points to make to get them into BRICS, also russia was a big advocate.

Even if BRICS fails, it can be the seed for a better organization later.

If Europe is going to reap the benefits of investing in India if China doesn’t… so what? Why do they care? They have steered their economy against China and have cheated Chinese companies anyway they can including seizing Chinese assets and holding back money owed. I thought European/Western money is more valued. Why would they muddy their economy with filthy Chinese money?

It’s because money is money. It doesn’t matter how it’s made or where it came from. If you can exchange it, it’s good as any money. So if European money is better and preferred, why the tease China is going to lose out? Because Europe doesn’t have the money and they need China’s because they’re intending to cheat it from China which is more okay than getting Westerners angry doing it to them.

The scam of India is jumping ahead in line. They want all the respect of something they are not due. India is not third in AI rankings but they want the investment as if they were. But the key is they want it from others. They can’t do it themselves because the reality is the state of their AI is undeserving of their declared ranking. China developed a US-beating AI and technology sector without the West’s investment and permission. How come India can’t do that? And yet they want to spin their need for Chinese money as China’s loss.

Trust is earned and India has done the complete opposite when it comes to China. India is going to have to do the kind of backflips for China like it’s done for the US. Throughout the Cold War, India sided with Russia/ the Soviet Union. Now they’ve flipped on their longtime ally in the hopes of just making their shit look like gold and selling it to the world. They’re going to have to that kind of level of backflipping for China alone to deserve Chinese money and assistance they need or else go to fucking Europe to get it. That’s the kind of epic-level cleansing they’ll have to do to get the money for the goals they want from China. They can’t be trusted because they want that money right now without effort or sincerity and just going by the illusion that they something right now that they are not.

India needs for itself a cultural revolution event. They supposedly want to learn from China… They are so corrupt culturally which is why they can’t do everything they claim they’re better than China at doing. That’s what they need and what it’ll take for them to change. Right now they’re a severe drug addict. And for them to rehabilitate, it’s going to need to hurt severely and historically for them to change. And if they slight China in anyway, they have not changed. They want everyone to just give them an easy-fix to solve all their problems for them. They don’t want to do the work it takes which tells you they’re not serious about it and it’ll just be a huge waste of money patronizing them.

Let Europe waste their imaginary money they don’t have. If it were such a great opportunity, they wouldn’t want China anywhere near it. Wouldn’t Europe want India all to themselves when they’re calling for the “middle powers” of the world to unite under their banner away from both the US and China? Why aren’t they when India so much believes in the romantic bull of Europe?
