She embarked amid rumors that the PLAN base at Sanya is expanding.. at least that's what rajfortyseven/X has claimed. Anyone know any more about it? There is apparently an unidentified construction, alongside two new piers but the satellite imagery is pretty fuzzy.

CV-17 Shandong moving out of Sanya following Fujian. Posted by @太湖军I名 on Weibo.

Sanya has been undergoing continuous expansion work at least a year by now, albeit not as expansive and stand-out as the expansion works undertaken at Qingdao.

Not sure why the Jai Hind is surprised by this.

Sanya has been undergoing expansion work for quite some time by now. Has been the case for more than a year, though not as expansive and stand-out as the expansion works undertaken at Qingdao.

Jianggezhuang? The expansion at Sanya seems to have garnered more interest, I have not heard much about this one.. Do you have any idea what they are envisioning? My guess like Raj is that structure might be used as a place for submarine storage or other ISR equipment, but I could be wrong.

Both STOBARs have recently left port: Liaoning since the 30th (Foolsball), and Shandong since today. Given the current political climate, the prospectof a WESTPAC deployment and joint exercises should be kept in mind. Note that no major exercise around Taiwan has been conducted since Strait Thunder–2025A.

There goes into the drain the myth people like to apply on PLAN "the one ship on station, one ship in transit and one ship in dock for maintenance" situation based on their impression originated from US Navy.

That is the advantage of keeping the navy in regions around the country vs being a World policemen. PLAN ships can be deployed in short notice in full or near full number if rquired. Also efficiency in repair and maintenance helps shorten idle time in shipyard or navy base.

I've heard that Liaoning tends to have a higher sortie rate than Shandong, despite being older, does anyone know why?
Please show from where you heard this. Bear in mind that Shandong was commissioned in December 2019, which means it had to train for a few year for IOC, and a few more year for FOC, while Liaoning had already achieved FOC a long time ago.

It is not clear if Shandong has achieved FOC, or had just reached FOC recently.

From US Navy experience, IOC is achieved in 2 to 5 years, and FOC from 5 to 10 years. US Navy's CVN G. Ford was commissioned in 2017, reached IOC in 2021, and has not yet reached FOC today.

IOC = Initial Operational Capability
FOC = Full Operational Capability

That is because they are conventional powered.
