It should also be noted that the Tejas videotaped with leaking fluid while parked on the ground (LA-5025) is not the same aircraft as the accident Tejas (LA-5026). The former is on static display.
No, the smoke for show comes from a pod. And burn off/smoke from the engine should go through the nozzle. This is coming from the area around the nacelle but outside the normal engine exhaust. So something burning where it is not supposed to or damage to systems around the engine. Could be hydraulics but Tejas is fully FBW?
From this angle, it looks like there was no recovery after the roll. Either the aircraft or the pilot was unable to level out.

It look like a misjudged altitude combined with the delta winged aircrafts characteristics of high drag and low control responses at low speed.
The afterburner plume look very shy tho.
