The "Cryogenic Purification and Neon Removal Device" independently developed by Anhui Wanrui Cold Electric Technology Co., Ltd. recently completed engineering acceptance at the helium extraction project site in Yan'an, Shaanxi Province. The device produces helium with a purity of 99.99997% (6N9 grade), and the neon impurity content is below 0.3 ppm. As the first domestic device to extract 6N9 grade ultra-pure helium from natural gas, this achievement marks a significant breakthrough in China's helium extraction from low-abundance natural gas. Chief Engineer Zhang Xuehua of Wanrui Cold Electric stated that the process technology indicators have reached an "internationally leading level" as certified by a third-party institution, signifying China's leap from having no high-purity helium engineering applications to achieving excellence, providing strong technological support for the country's strategic resource security.

More returning talent, this time in industrial simulation.

Zhou Ming, renowned as the mastermind behind key industrial software used in planes such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380, has left his leadership role at US-based global engineering giant Altair to return to China. An announcement on the website of the College of Engineering at the Eastern Institute of Technology in Ningbo said Zhou had joined as a chair professor and the first dean of the college in June and was already setting up a research team.

Zhou also confirmed the move on his personal social media accounts, saying: “I’m excited to drive frontier research addressing global challenges while inspiring the next generation of technology innovators. It’s incredibly energising to be part of a mission far larger than ourselves.”

The university said Zhou would “establish a world-class research and development team for engineering software and optimisation design technology”. It will focus on core engineering software technology with the aim of “empowering the independent innovation and enhancement of core competitiveness in China’s high-end manufacturing industry”.

Paper on the quantified benefits of military-civil fusion w.r.t. financial constraints and productivity.

This paper takes China's listed companies from 2009 to 2019 as the study objects to investigate whether the development of military-civilian integration improves or aggravates the financial constraints of enterprises. First, we construct a financing constraint index that conforms to the characteristics of Chinese enterprises, taking the enterprises involved in military production as the experimental group and other types of enterprises as the control group. Using the difference-in-differences model to examine the impact of the implementation of the military-civilian integration strategy on the level of corporate financial constraints, we reveal that the financial constraints of military production enterprises have increased obviously following the implementation of the military-civilian integration strategy.

Second, by dividing financing into internal and external groups, the mechanism of military-civilian integration affecting corporate financial constraints is tested. The results identify the decline of internal financing as the main reason for the increase in corporate financial constraints. Finally, the Levinsohn-Petrin (LP) method is used to measure the total factor productivity of enterprises, and the heterogeneous impact of military-civilian integration on the total factor productivity of enterprises and different types of enterprises is further evaluated. It is concluded that the military-civilian integration strategy improves the total factor productivity of enterprises, among which the total factor productivity of state-owned enterprises is more significant than private enterprises.

Mathematician Zhang Yitang says he left US for China due to political climate

Mathematician Zhang Yitang, who joined Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou from California in June, has called the wave of Chinese researchers exiting the US a “positive trend”.

Zhang, known for his prime number research, told Phoenix TV, a partially state-owned broadcaster, in a programme aired on Monday that he had been thinking about returning to the mainland “in light of recent international political issues that have strained China-US relations”.

The Shanghai native, 70, is now a full professor at Sun Yat-sen’s newly established Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong. He

The best patriotic education is living in a country that fears and hates your kind. Some hard lessons in life cannot be learned from your loving parents trying to teach you but only from an armed bandit kicking at your door. Under that kind of pressure, some will crumble into the dust of self-hate and appeasement, while others will be forged into diamonds.
