So, i'm in Beijing right now and just observing the cars they have on the street here.

NEVs are not as common as I would expect. I would guess maybe 20 to 25% of the non-cabs are NEVs. Among cab NEVs, they are all local BAIC types I think. I haven't seen all that many BYD cars here, but they are the most common NEV brand outside of the cabs. Qin+ and Yuan/Song are the most common ones I've seen. I haven't seen any XPeng or Li Auto, but I have seen a few NIO and Tesla. Maybe 1 or AITO. I even saw a ID3 this morning. Still heavy presence of legacy ICE on the street, a lot of Toyota, VW, Honda and GM around. So my sense is that NEV penetration and growth has plenty of room to go still.

Cabs are always dominated by local brands.
And Beijing is kinda special as its license plate policy is so strict that people tend to keep older cars longer.

How many nio EVs do you see in Beijing?

not a whole lot, just a few. I'm just comparing this to Leapmotor and Li Auto and XPeng, which I haven't seen any.

Again, NEVs are not as frequent as I expected.

Yesterday, I saw a Sea Lion 06 DM-i, which is kind of cool since it just got launched. The SUVs look a lot larger in person than I expect, especially something like Song+. It is a really good sized family car. I can see why it's so popular. Yuan is noticeably smaller.

Not familiar with Beijing, but I remember in Shanghai I saw a big SAIC presence among taxi driver iirc due to local government incentives. Saw a lot of Aito and Nio/Xiaomi/LI/Xpeng in around that order. Not as much BYD relative to their impressive sales numbers compared to the rest of the competition.

this morning when I was outside, I did see a Li Auto L8 and 2 XPeng G6s, so that was pretty good. I also saw Sea Lion 07 EV. Honestly, the Song+ looks almost as big as Sea Lion 07 and is so much cheaper. I can see why it sells so well in China. Great fit for new families.

too much competition.

Alright, I went to a mall today with many EV stores.

NIO had by far the best offering in terms of the customer service. I think ES6 is a really nicely designed car. ET9 didn't blow me away in person, which is sad. ES6 is also the model I see far away the most on the street among NIO cars.

Li Auto didn't do all the added frills that NIO had, but sales agent was really top notch and gave me great answers to everything, including why MEGA Home is doing well and told me that i6 is coming after i8 and showed me their nation wide superchargers.

Huawei store was more for their consumer devices than their cars. I can see why S9 doesn't sell better. There is just limited market for a car with 4 large seats. You don't get that kind of car for families. I thought R7 is really nice looking, but it doesn't sell better for some reason. I also tried all their foldable phones. Btw, Honor's new foldable phone is actually supposed to be thinner, but Huawei is the king of foldable phones. Pura X was pretty well designed when I saw it in person. of course, Mate XT is still the star.

Zeekr store was pretty empty when I got there. They told me that 007GT & 7X are selling the best and showed me features of 009, but it's not full featured as MEGA Home. If you have the money, definitely get MEGA Home. Looks like they are placing a lot of hope on 9X.
