Canada Transport Minister Freeland ‘dismayed’ by BC Ferries deal with Chinese company
Canada’s transport minister says she is “dismayed” BC Ferries contracted a Chinese state-owned shipyard to build four new vessels in the current geopolitical context that includes “unjustified” tariffs on Canada.
Chrystia Freeland, in a letter to her B.C. counterpart Mike Farnworth, said she expects BC Ferries to inform her of all measures it plans to take to “mitigate any security risks,” including cybersecurity problems that might arise.
BC Ferries, in a statement, said the Chinese bid was the strongest by a “significant margin” and that security was a top priority and added all sensitive systems would be sourced separately and independently certified before the vessels enter service.
Farnworth’s comments echo those of B.C. Premier David Eby, who has promised to work with Ottawa to build up capacities in B.C. for future vessels.
I know it sounds confusing but here in Canada we regularly shuffle the cabinet just as officials learn their jobs.
Do they even care a this point, though?. They have violated every historical Cold War and post-Cold War treaty in the last 5 years. The Taurus cruise missile has supposedly over 500km range. If Germany exports it to Ukraine they will be violating the MTCR.
It's the boy who cried wolf problem, Israel exaggerated it so much, if Iran actually builds one now nobody will believe Israel, including the US.I view it as Israel is dragging a reluctant US to do ground invasion, by provoking Iran to go over the nuclear threshold (or very least, exaggerating the threat), and hoping the superpower does the dirty work for Israel. The funny thing is, even if US doesn't do a ground invasion, it's going to keep a ton of assets around ME, which sucks resources away from Pacific. Oh, the woes of an overstretched empire.
And all these strikes are meaningless without a ground invasion, one cannot just hope Iran collapses from embarrassment or wishful thinking or a magically coup.
