Yes, those are blast barriers. The problem is that Vikrant should have been designed properly to begin with. Instead, the Indian Navy thought that they could get away with cutting corners, and that just doesn't work when it comes to carrier operations. The Americans have the most experience in the world with carriers, but they tried to get fancy with Ford, and even they end up paying the price for it. The Indians did a worse job with Vikrant so their problems are going to be much worse. I would say that, until it gets a major overhaul, Vikrant should be regarded more as a fancy showpiece than as a practical war machine.
There's nothing behind launch positions. It's a relatively small light carrier.

Dassault gonna be happy for the inevitable additional repair/maint money they will be making in the future for 'chipped wing tips' :D

The Rafale M is listed at 11M wingspan.

The MiG-29K folded is just under 6 meters.

This is the MiG-29K folded on Vikrant's elevator.

It'll be hilarious to see them jerry-rig a process to get the Rafale M with non-folding wings on that elevator -- designed specially by the Russians for the MiG-29k. LOL

They can put some pallets under one of the wheels so the plane is tilted.

Sorry but No. I tried that with napkins. at twice the width, the Rafale-M needs to be almost vertical to fit. In order not to damage the wing, I would use an articulating hydraulic lift clamped to the landing wheels. if no electrical outlet nearby, a Honda diesel generator will do.

Isnt INS vikrant their own made design not a kiev refurb? Did they copy paste the dimensions and systems and stuff?? Not accounting for future?

And please dont make fun of me, I personally dont know.
But could india pay extra for Rafale M's to have foldable wings..??

From what I read their entire "aviation complex" was designed and sold to them by Russia. Anything that had to do with planes like elevators, arresting gear and landing guidance systems were built by Russians. These are brand new systems and had nothing to do with refurbishing Kievs. They just designed things for the MiG-29K (because the SU-33 is not in production.)

In fact, I'm not sure Indians designed any of the major systems on Vikrant. Radar, AD, engines, etc. were all sourced from overseas. Fincantari from Italy were involved in the base design of the ship. Their issues again is importing with little seeming control. Yes, that's how you end up with these silly issues. Why build a carrier with such restrictive elevators and no blast deflectors? Why design a new carrier where all the launch points are in the middle of the angled deck precluding any chance simultaneous launch and recovery?

Finally I doubt Dassault will redesign the Rafale M with folding wings just for India.
