Chinese weapons gave Pakistan a new edge against India

India’s four-day military showdown with Pakistan set several new precedents. For military officials from outside the region, the most intriguing one was Pakistan’s use of advanced Chinese fighter jets and missiles in aerial combat with Western-made counterparts.

I think towards the end the RWR did pick up something since one of the videos of the Rafale shoot down showed what appeared to be flares popping out. I am not familiar with how chaff works on Rafale. Is it packed with flares or is it freshly cut and dispensed separately?

Either way from what I’ve heard chaff is not good for defending against AESA seekers.
that's fine. but it's just amazing to me that the "great Rafale" couldn't even identify a missile flying at it. It's amazing what French marketing turned Rafale into.

Not so much the pilots themselves, but rather IAF as an organization is inept and backwards, relying on legacy doctrines and tactics. Where was the AWACs support and EW support? Nonexistent. IAF does not understand the importance of network centric warfare and systems of systems approach to warfare. It is a patchwork of individual platforms of varying quality and capabilities that together perform worse than the sum of its parts. When faced with a networked modern air combat system trained by the PLAAF in modern BVR focused systems centric air warfare, the result is expected to be disastrous for the IAF.

Well, if you look at my thread on this, I'm quite critical of IAF and its lack of ability to execute BVR. They are definitely behind the ball when it comes to modern air warfare. However, Rafale itself got exposed here. Spectre is VERY OVERRATED.

Should be common knowledge amongst forum members that the primary advantage that J-10C possess over the Rafale is a bigger, more capable, AESA that is at least a full generation ahead (likely utilizing GaN as opposed to GaAs). SPECTRE was likely very good when it first debut, but I doubt when it was designed to handle the threat of BVRAAMs with AESA seekers and midcourse guidance. All other things being equal, in a true systems on systems engagement with proper AWACs support and tactical proficiency on both sides, I don't forsee major differences in performance between the J-10C and Rafale (exchange ratio approaching 1:1). So J-10C wins on virtue of being a much cheaper platform.

GaN radar on J-10C is, as far as i understand, speculation, and a rather wild one.
Verified Chinese GaN x-band radars appeared several years after its adoption...

Relationship is a bit more complicated - while J-10C certainly has way larger radar(which is a primary factor - and J-10C is particularly strong there, if understand correctly - best within class), to some degree Rafale should equal it out through the presense of second engine (it gives aircraft superior power and power agility).

Indian foreign minister sounds like he's complaining because Pakistan didn't choose to take their "advice" — let us bomb your sovereign territory — and instead retaliated.

I remember people were hyping Jaishankar coz he has experience with east asia and married a Japanese.

Turns out he didn't learn a goddamn thing from his experience there.. Not much different from western sexpats who call themselves asian experts.
